  • Third party liability insurance?

    Hello.

I was looking at a pistol from this online store but was questioned why I wanted a two toned service.
The shop said that if I had third party liability insurance like that from Sportsman's association then they could sell me a none two tone.

I would like to double check if this is 100% legal and do zero one accept this type of defence.
Don't get me wrong I not try to get around the law this is why I am asking for advice I would be happy with a two tone still.
    Thank you.

There seems to be some confusion (unsurprisingly)

You need to be a regular skirmisher at a site with third party liability insurance. Simply saying you play 'BB Warz' in your mates garden is not enough to avail yourself of the specific defence we airsofters are granted under the VCRA

Oddly, technically speaking (and owing to the vagueness of the VCRA and its openness to subjective interpretation), he probably could get away with that actually.

Technically speaking it's the seller who needs to establish the defence for himself when selling a RIF and needs to follow the guidance in the VCRA and associated documents to do this. Nowhere does it say anything about "regular airsofter," despite it being the thing that airsofters always (mis)quote.

What it actually says is that a seller can avail themself of a 'defence against prosecution' if they can show that they believed that they were intending to provide the RIF for "the acting out of military or law enforcement scenarios for the purposes of recreation" (an example of which is 'airsoft skirmishing') at a site with third party liability insurance.

So, if you could show you had some third party liability insurance for the site you want to play at, and that you'll be acting out a 'military scenario for recreation,' he could probably cover himself.

      Fun times with UK law!

True it's so messed up you can't always tell if your breaking the law

I think I will just get two tone again for now till I do more airsoft game later this year.
        Thank you.

Just to update this a little more I been told by sportsman association that being a member is all you need to be exempt from vcra as it covers skirmishing and also target shooting.

I use my airsoft guns at my local gun range so I should be ok I think lol.
