  • Thunder B Grenades, re-useable NON pyro grenades

Got this to "try out", but I'll soon be ordering a couple more; a good product and fun to use in skirmish

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBMHYF4wZso

    PROS:
    1) Non-pyro, so can be used on most sites by under 18's
    2) Really nice feel to them; and look great hanging off your webbing
    3) Sturdy build quality
    4) LOUD bang, which is a "thudd" rather than a "crack". If you can use mark 5's at your site, you'll be fine with these.
    5) Very effective as booby traps
    6) Easy to re-load, once you get then hang of it.
    7) no mis-fires at all so far; and "fuse" time is very consistent (3 sec)
    8) Ring-pull so quick to deploy, and no more damp strikers

    CONS:
    1) Quite expensive initially; but work out about the same, per throw as pyro, once you've bought the mechanism
    2) Fairly heavy, so I think alot of sites will class as heavy case and make you roll/drop rather than throwing them, not a huge problem, but can limit their effectivness in woodland
    3) It's big! uses up the same space in your pouches as 7 or 8 mark 5's
    4) The trigger mech is VERY easy to release, the spoon only needs come about 1/8 inch from body and "click"; time to be getting rid of it

    TIPS:
    1) I've been putting a few squirts of talcum powder into the body; gives off a cloud so you can see point of detonation if using in woodland, they can be hard to find after wards; I'll also be spraying the INSIDE on the spoon floresent orange to help see them in undergrowth
    2) If using as trip mine, attach wire to grenade body and "wedge" the spoon; rathet than directly to pin, as these are fairly stiff to pull out.

I considered buying one of these, but settled on a BFG in the end. While the thunder B is cheap per throw the blanks for a BFG work out cheaper. If I remember rightly it worked out ~£2-3 per throw with the thunder b and ~30p a throw for a BFG, although the initial costs of each grenade can vary.

The one trick I was told about these alongside the baby powder in the bottom, was to put some plumber's PTFE tape around the grenades thread as you tighten on the shell. It'll increase the noise and hold the remains of the shell onto the spoon making it more visible.

I wouldn't use anything this unpredictable, regardless of 'safeness'...

they arent the best, novel, but depending on the type of plastic lower you use, they can have varying results (they have the smoke style flat sided and the pineapple nade style lower) the plastic vairies in thickness, so one can "cook" in seconds, the next, like in the vid, can take almost a minute to give! my local retailer has them in stock, I recall one not giving at all...

Just wondering if you're speaking from personal experience here i.e. do you own one of these?

I only ask as I've had my two ages now (30+ detonations), and not noted ANY difference in results between the black sound case or the green pineapple.

Again may be just because I bought a large "re-fill" batch, but the detonation has been consistantly 2-3 seconds.

The ONLY time I had a long delay, was when I hadn't screwed the body on tightly enough and it was leaking gas, still only about 6 seconds though, even then but we could here it hissing.

The only "misfires" (i.e not going off at all) is when using as a booby trap (at which they normally exell) and placed badly so hammer got clogged on the way to firing pin, and hence didn't strike hard enough to pierce Co2 caplet.

          I love um

I wouldent use one at all.. and i doubt the site i play at would either! Yes they look awsome and practical.. but when it detonates it flies across the floor.. thats a bit of a bummer.. looks ace with the powder.. i'll stick to my BFG and .25's

Yep Jester, I bought one about 6 months back, but wanted it for the pineaple look only, gave up buying them after a couple of "duds" that swelled, but never blew, could have been a dodgy batch, but the novelty wore off, I have a couple still knocking about, and the core somewhere, if I find them you can have them for spares mate

Bazzar like I said mine have be no trouble; perhaps I just got 2 good ones. As to spares I'd be up for that, if you can find them let me know; how much you want for it?

the core is fine, I think I may have had a thicker batch of outer shells... if I find it mate, you can have it, with the other outer cans I have left

You sure? Must say that's very good of you; if you do manage to find it, I'll paypal you some cah for P&P at the very least.
