Reviews - Why can't we name and shame?
15 December, 2011, 22:31
I've had a couple of very bad dealings with certain Airsoft retailers (None of them ZeroOne by the way), in fact it has become very apparent that not many Airsoft retailers out there are 100% reliable at all (especially when it comes to consumer rights and returns of faulty / second rate goods).
So isn't it time we can review these retailers and highlight problems we have all had as individuals so that other potential buyers can make informed choices as to where they buy there products from?
Only the other week I commented in a thread that I had had a problem with said retailer and my message was deleted and I had a telling off with a 1point slap on the wrist.
If I had a forum I could go to, to get buyer reviews, I'm sure I wouldn't have made some of the purchases I did and subsequently could have avoided the grief and endless problems I have had since.
Now the problem I see with the way the rules are at the moment are...
1) We are aloud to mention ZeroOne and therefore I'm presuming we can mention any bad service we have received.
2) We cannot mention bad service from competitors (which would actually fall in the favour of ZeroOne)
I guess what I'm asking here is who thinks a retailer review thread should be aloud?
I'm not trying to over throw existing rules, but maybe a show of hands might show Zero In that there is a need for such a thread.
(FYI, my purchases and personal experience with ZeroOne has always been top notch with no complaints!)

because what would stop Zero one employees falsely posting up negative reviews of the competition

would be a good idea, maybe they could learn how to improve their site? such as including product descriptions?
still dont see why we arent allowed to mention other retailers, its not like everyone is blinded to the fact that there are others out there, surely constructive criticism would do their business good?

No such thing as constructive critism on the interweb, only critism

Whoa hang on... ZeroIn made the rules.... if they wanted to slate the competition they wouldn't have made up this rule... surely...
Do you see where I'm coming from here?
I guess what they really want is to ensure that we arn't directing people to other cheaper retailers for products that ZeroOne sell...
So a rule stating no mention of cost in conjunction with retailers names might be a more appropriate policy over a complete ban on retailers names. Afterall what I'd like to see is a review of negative experiences and services, not products.

There is no anger... only cautious optimism that if one person could save themselves the hassle I've been through with multiple retailers, the world would be a much brighter place to live in
Come on Sparrowhawk... do you really think a review on retailers services is all that bad?
There are other retailers out there... everyone knows who they are... and not all are as good as ZeroOne.

Or as bad...
Clearly it makes no sense to have a section where you can only bash retailer. 10 negatives... is that good or bad? Depends if you have 10 or 1,000,000 customers!

Re: Reviews - Why can't we name and shame?
Nah Jagillham, I think I'm being misunderstood a little.
It's not "bashing" if it's a true reflection on the experience / service you've received.
It's a warning to others.
I had a few bad experience, they have lost my custom... no bashing needed... no skin off my nose if I slate them here or not!
What would have been nice, if I'd been warned about said retailer before I made the purchase and could have saved me a lot of hassle.
I could quite simply stick a list of retailers here and my experience
Retailer A - Bad packaging, slightly damaged goods on delivery.
Retailer B - Gave incorrect advice on product
etc...
Anyway, enough said, this obviously isn't something lots of people agree with me on, so it may be best to drop it.

The fact that you cannot mention other retailers (they DON'T exist so I couldn't even if I wanted to) is one of the things I like about Zero in.
I like to think of my self as one of those people who said the Earth was round, I think of Zero In as the people who think the Earth is still flat.

Re: Reviews - Why can't we name and shame?
and the other problem with naming and shaming.
if the truth is being told.
if the info put on a page is one sided, without the 2nd party involved then there would be no way to beleive if the poster was being truthful.
ive bought from shops that got slated on a forum and not had the same problems, and if i use monkeyfirm (sorry, paypal) then i know that im safe for 45 days if anything goes wrong.
and the other little side to it...somthing weve all probably done......exagerate a soupsong coz that part we ordered arrived a day late (as if we would
)
i think a name and shame on any forum would degrade the forum.

Re: Reviews - Why can't we name and shame?
on a side note,we all slag paypal off,but were would a lot of us be without it....i mean we can sell stuff on a certain popular auction site...or this very forum and have cash instantly.
before the advent of paypal we only had ,cash on collection, postal order, cheque, cash sent through the post (risky),bank transfer(again risky).
so before paypal, things were either incredibly slow or very risky.sure you could pay with credit/debit cards....but unless you were a business of some kind you couldnt BE paid.
yet all we do is have a go at them coz the service is badly run somtimes, but not all the time, but i dont know of ANY service that somtimes doesnt have a problem.
just my 2 cents

Name and shame/retailer reviews work perfectly well everywhere else.
Why all of a sudden is the concept of retailer reviews a bad one?
But on here i dont see how this topic has lasted this long, the no retailer rule has been there forever and is probably not going anywhere anytime soon.
Why is it still so hard for people to get their heads around the fact that Zero One dont and wont allow competition named on the forum that they provide and maintain?!?!
If you want to name and shame/review why not do it one one of the many other non affiliated airsoft forums out there??
If im not wrong i believe there is or was a website dedicated to airsoft retailer reviews.
What does it matter that this single forum doesent have a review section???

Thing is if you name and shame all the thread will be about is slating that company for what might be human error/manufacturer error

That im sure would be true if it was called "name and shame"
The title itself just asks you to share the bad experiences, and i dont think thats right.
But if you look at any of the other forums "retailer review" sections while yes there may be bad reviews its all balanced out, some have a bad time and slate, others have good and praise.
Even when hell freezes over and Zero One add a Retailer review section, it wont work, we all know on here it will always decend into a slanging match.

Indeed, the only way to keep it balanced is to not allow it at all. There are always 2 sides to every story, which is the same reason we don't allow naming and shaming of bad traders on here. 2 recent examples that spring to mind were Xsite getting slated for apparently breaking the law when selling RIFs, yet (arguably) they aren't at all, and the site owner had to come on here and defend his actions
Another was a thread started by some guy slating BAMF for trying to scam him, and as it turned out, it was actually BAMF that was the innocent party, and the other guy was trying to pull a fast one
