  • Playing at Urban Assault AKA How to take a building

    Hi peeps,

We’re going down to UA in a few months and I just wondered what advice people have for taking a building by force. Is a two man team better over a 6 man squad for example?

If anyone’s played there (or anywhere with buildings for that matter) any advice would be happily accepted.

Grenades (but only the low-powered ones they sell on site, they have noise limits due to the neighbouring houses) and aggression. It can be done with one person if they're sneaky enough but the best number is probably 4 for the smaller buildings. Move quickly and as quietly as possible although that's easier said than done since the floor boards creak in every building and there's usually rubble in the way. Always be aware that there could be someone above you and behind you so have someone looking out for that. The first game you'll no doubt play is a warm-up of capture the flag where you one team will start in the cinema and the other in the casino. Out of the number of games I've played there I think a flag has only been captured a few times. It gets close and personal so I'd advise a snood/shemagh if wearing glasses/goggles.

Re: Playing at Urban Assault AKA How to take a building

As a frequent player at UA, the best way to get in any of the buildings is cover the windows with suppressing fire whilst runners get the in the doors/windows as fast as humanly possible. Once they are in, reinforce them, but continue to suppress the windows from outside, being very careful of friendly fire.

The guys inside won't be able to watch the approach well, and if they are, room clearing will be a cinch.

If you have locals or anyone that knows what they are doing in the building, they will pull back into the stairwell area once the building is breached, and if that happens, you won't get them out without frags and lots of aggression.

There are some building you just will not get into without throwing most of the team at it, if experienced players are in there... "The Garrison" for one...

yeah it's best to sneak in because when you disturb the other team they just point their barrels down the stairwell where you head will be which isnt pleasant.

Wouldn't worry about it 'North East Airsoft', from what I hear you're all invincible anyway

Stairs at Longmoor FIBUA are my problem... grenades don't seem to do all that much and there's only one approach
The worst, most costly choke point!
Really though, it depends wether they are expecting you or not. If the objective IS the building, as has been said, suppress like crazy and run like a b**ch, get some nades in and have fun, I try to nade the top floors and clear the ground floor with my pistol normally takes a couple of guys lacing the windows and two guys clearing.
If they don't expect you, line wolf is great, draw a sidearm and stay quiet, leave your primary with a friend if you can. They can cover the outside, make sure no one enters after you whilst you sweep the buildings.
9/10 times the building will be empty, even if people fired from it minutes before. People bug out regularly in my experience
but when you do find the enemy, don't bother with a grenade, just double tap each of them and move on, after first contact start worrying about using nades to clear rooms.

The thread shows up as "Playing at Urban Assault AKA..." on the main menu.

My gut reaction for the second half was "...How to waste thousands of BBs on teflon supertroopers".

The only advice I have for UA is take a really long fuse for your temper and be prepared to move to a different area of the site if you hit a teflon wall.

                Teflon Wall, I like it!

In my experience, you need to get through a door or window unseen, and then using shock tactics you take the building within a few seconds or not at all... all depends on the people in the building. If they can hold a corridor (such as in the Garrison) well enough you aren't getting in no matter what you do.

Wear Police gear and run past all the windows... they soon chase you... shame the rest of the team I was on didn't follow a few seconds later to shoot as they chased us!

It's always worked for me, but that's at Longmoor, never been to any other CQB environment
                  Teflon wall! Brilliant :D
And that's a good point bout temper, seem to be more dramas at CQB than woodland

My gut reaction to that comment is... "Playing at Urban Assault AKA where to go to watch loads of people shooting at people that are at least 50% out of range".

I play at urban assault at least once a month and I have barely ever seen any cheating there, but what I do see is heaps of people firing across massive open spaces and getting wound up because they are not hitting anything. The space between the buildings is quite large, stretching the reasonable range of most guns and the sound of your fire arrives at your target a good second before the BBs do. Exchanging fire, window to window is a largely fruitless exercise.

I think urban assault is renowned for cheaters, the majority of people that play there are fine but you always get 4-5 twats, I shot some guy in the arm and he just swore at me and shot me in the head...

And again Ben, you seem to regard me as someone who "isn't playing the game properly", rather than someone with legitimate complaints.

I'm not talking about limits of range, building to building shooting. I'm taking about nailing people room to room who will duck in to a doorway cursing and then return fire. The kind of bare faced none hit taking that led a team mate of mine to stand in the parade square, eject his magazine and empty it onto the ground, for all the good it was doing against the opposition.

But there we go, your mileage may vary.

I've never experienced either of the above, perhaps I'm inside some little bubble of wonder or maybe it's even me you are talking about, but seriously, neither of those things have happened to me, and that's why I struggle to grasp the idea.

I have seen examples of the above though, many times, which, apologies if my comments seem to "poo-poo" your complaint, make them the go-to solution to most peoples call of CHEAAAAT!!! It happens all the time if you tend to take a moment and look at what's going on around you... People on my team are often nailing off rounds at distant targets getting slowly more and more frustrated, but if they watch the BBs they are firing, they are falling well short.

As for CQB-based problems, the fact of the matter is, most people are far worse at shooting a gun under pressure than they think they are.., Again, not dismissing your statement, just giving you something to think about. I hardly EVER see anyone with their eye up to the sights of their weapon when shooting at close range, it's all firing from the hip and grabbing a big handful of trigger on reaction if something comes across their vision. The gun cycles and you hear a satisfying impact of BBs on something... Usually wall, door frame or the floor, far more rarely, the target...

Then there is the infectious call of "cheat". Once one person has uttered the word, it's like an avalanche. Everyone within earshot immediately begins to assume any bout of unsuccessful fire was aimed squarely at somebody that was cheating, they yell "cheat" and it all starts to get very depressing and frustrating.

quite true, the guy I shot I got on head cam. You can see the bb fly out of my barrel and into his arm from 2 metres away and the twat flinches. He then walks round the corner and then runs back at me fully auto me in the face and starts swearing at me. There are a lot of bad tempered people at urban assault. Me and my friends came up behind a group of 8 reds and shot them all and were called f*ck*n C**ts, the marshel said there was nothing wrong with what we did. But is does make the day fun having a few angry people, their reactions are funny
