Hahaa, did you mean it when you ran round the side of the Morgue shouting "I'm gonna get this motherf**ker!"?

You're quite right though, the dude with the helmet and the M4 pulled off a prize tw*t move there if you hit him as you say you did. Not a bloke I know of myself so likely not a "regular".

Na I didnt mean it personally to the people I was shooting just the adrenaline was flowing and was a bit hyper. And yeah bunch of tossers, I thought it was his mate at first that shot me becuase they both look the same. Then I watched the footage and realised it was the same tosser that I shot in the first place. To be honest though the majority of people at urban are fine you just get a handful of tossers

Re: Playing at Urban Assault AKA How to take a building

I haven't been at Urban for a long time but there have been a few occasions when one of the marshalls has had to be called over. I think it generally stems from "3 O'clock Syndrome", definition: people get cranky when they're tired. As a consequence, game play goes down the drain, especially when one team has been doing slightly better than the other and the struggling team decide to use 'unconventional warfare tactics'.

Re: Playing at Urban Assault AKA How to take a building

I dislike the fact all the regulars go on the same team every time at Urban Assault and make the teams a little unfair... not that it has ANYTHING to do with this topic. Seriously derailed guys.

Back on topic, anybody have any tactics for clearing rooms which haven't already been mentioned?

Not entirely derailed- I thought the OP wanted advice and we're just saying keep a cool head when others around you lose theirs or start to cheat

As for advice on taking a building: A mirror, a regular has a small one attached to the end of his rifle and it helps him see around corners. Before anyone starts with the "BLIND-FIRING" stuff, he doesn't- it's not an aid in shooting round corners, just looking round them. Think someone else said watch out for friendly fire- there can be quite a lot of blue on blue, especially when attacking a building from two different directions.

The advice of "be prepared there are some cheaters" is a good one as it’s nice to know to go in there with a cool head. Not that it’s a slight at UA or its players as all sites have issues like that are some small way. BUT I would like this thread not to go off on every post talking about cheating etc...

But the tactics of grenades/stairwells/windows and even which buildings are ranked as hardest to take etc is great stuff. Even stuff not related to UA but just to building taken is invaluable. The four sites I play are mostly forest fighting or at best some smaller cabin based buildings and nothing on this scale.

Check your corners! If there are 2 of you, agree on a side each so when you come to a T junction you know who is looking where when you say "go"!

some very relivant points here. Having played there once I wouldn't go back .Not because cheating is rife as there was no more than anywhere else I've been . I found the building approaches tedious because of the lack of cover and as said previously the ranges are at a stretch just over average range so making head way is laborious. I also found the lack of propper explosions just not right. If I want a good CQB fix in that area my advice is go to the embassy in Leicester.

Re: Playing at Urban Assault AKA How to take a building

Agreed on the corner checking ^^

I'd say that the Garrison and the Casino are probably the hardest buildings to take- even more so if there are some seasoned regulars in them. There is one staircase leading to the first floor in the garrison which doubles back on itself. There is a room across the hall and to the left with a small hole in the far wall- this is big enough for someone to stick an aeg barrel through and cover the stairs right down to the point at which it doubles back (the hole is big enough to see through so it doesn't count as blind firing). Best advice i can give for this is get some grenades into the rooms from outside and flush them out into the corridor and put some fire/grenades down them at the same time- they're stuck then. There's also a big window frame which you can shoot onto the landing from a banking outside- you can cover people moving up the stairs while people move round the front and stick some grenades in through the windows.

The Casino has a large double staircase but there are windows overhead each flight which means you can get a round in the top of the head as you go up the first flight. Also, there's a hellish crossfire as there is a partition wall with two doors on opposite sides which cover both stairs. There is a small staircase opposite the main stairs however this is a small spiral-type affair with room for only one person. It's always worth while to send someone up this every now and then when there's a big assault on the main stairs to try and catch the defenders out. But again, the best way to take this is grenades and aggression.

I don't even bother taking part in assaulting the top floor of the casino... You may as well just run in a line at the other team.

Police Station makes me giggle. Throw a grenade through the window into the corridor on the first floor when the assault begins and watch as about 8 people come walking out... nobody expects a grenade that early in the game.

Yeh I agree with you there B.E.N, the Casino is a pain and it's just a matter of attrition at the end of the day.

The Police Station is a good one to do- there are several points of entry, as you look at the building from the parade square there are 3 on the left hand side, 2 ground floor entrances and 1 up a fire escape. The ones on the ground lead into a large pillared hallway. These can be got at easily enough if a large group make their way behind the (power station/boiler room?). There is one rear entrance (giggedy) but this is covered by the Alamo which is an annex to the main building, accessible from the inside via a narrow staircase and from the outside via a spiral staircase. Neither option is very desirable as you'll stick out like a dick on a donkey on the outside staircase and the interior isn't very great. If there is a capture the flag/briefcase/laptop mission, you can bet that the defenders will have put it in the alamo.
On the right hand side there is a hole-in-the-wall which leads to the right hand hall of the ground floor, if you can get in here it is easy enough to move through the corridor but go steady as there are pillars which someone could be lurking behind. There is also fire escape around the corner from this but is covered by the Alamo and windows along the rear face of the building.
There are 2 entrances to the front of the building, the left hand entrance has a staircase leading straight off of it. The right hand entrance leads into the hall with pillars and a back passage which leads to the staircase to the Alamo and the rear entrance.

I advise the approach that Crasstoe mentioned- if you can get along the front face of the Police Station you can get into the right hand hall and roll the defenders up like a cheap carpet. The majority of the objectives will be on the ground floor anyway (usually lights which have to be turned on/off) so there will probably be no need to get upstairs (unless they have an aforementioned objective in the Alamo or a kill-all-defenders game).

The police station is a harder now the bike shed has been knocked down on the right hand approach... Well, at least it stops everyone gathering behind it and forces people to get in the door!
