Re: Playing at Urban Assault AKA How to take a building

I forgot to mention the bike shed. I think it's easier getting to the wall from just off the front from the building to the right of the parade square (is that the Admin Building?) using the crates as much as possible.

Lately we've been using the left, getting to the tank and then working in from there, literally up the fire escape...

I live 20 mins away from UA and I don't know... If I told everyone what I thought of it I'd just be parroting what everyone else has said. I'm not likely to go there again, I tried my hardest to see past the rampant cheating, exorbitant aggression and dull gameplay but I just can't enjoy myself over there. Saying that I'm thinking of going back there to film a day with my 550D with my normal and fish-eye lens but I don't think I'll ever play there again.

Used that technique a few times- bods covering the top windows from the brick walls while you move to the tank and then covering them in turn from there. I never used to worry to much about upstairs because the lights were always downstairs but again it depends, if there was some sh*tbag that I was hunting upstairs then it would only be a matter of time lol.

Pffffff....... What else? Hang on, tea required....

Right, covered the Garrison, the Casino and the Police Station. Might as well go over the West Wing!

The West Wing is essentially a big 'E' shaped building, it has a main corridor running about 100m and has 3 corridors branching off at regular intervals perpendicular to the main concourse (hence the 'E' shape). This is the same on the ground floor and top floor. It actually has a corridor at the end on the ground floor which connects to the Hotel (but I'll not go into that one yet). Each corridor has rooms to the left and right. Access can be achieved through the ground floor and via a fire escape at the end of each corridor and through the ground floor windows and some holes which have been knocked through. You can also get in through the 'front' of the building via, funnily enough, the main entrance as well as windows and other doors. The first game of any day will involved a capture the flag in this building and the ground floor of the Casino (which is just across a small road from the West Wing). From the main entrance there is a stairwell and at the far end (i.e. the furthest end from the Casino) there is another 2 sets of stairs, both narrow and quite close to one another.
There is no set tactical way of taking the West Wing, just get in it and shoot the bad guys but be on the watch for friendlies- there is hardly any light and the highly accessible nature means that friendlies could also be coming in from anywhere! Comms are a good shout here.

The number of times I get shot in the back in the West Wing is unreal!

I feel UA needs to beef up the games to time based objectives, like a mini mil sim and it would be far better. Say 13:00 who ever holds the Casino gets 2 points, and at 12:00 who ever holds the Police Station gets some points etc etc, with some objectives in other buildings being worth 1 point, like turning off a light and defending it till a certain time...

Re: Playing at Urban Assault AKA How to take a building

They actually have done a couple of mini-milsim games in the afternoon, multiple objectives to get and hold on to and whoever had the most won at the end of the day. Can't remember the last time they did that but I don't think the average UA player had the attention span to do that.

"The Bank" is sometimes an interesting building to deal with... It's an "H" shape but with a barricade strewn approach on most sides and some aspects without windows.

Another top tip is always cook off your grenades to ensure they do the job, because it's really easy to bug out, wait for the pop and backfill.

Good call on the grenades BEN. I miss smokes at UA...

Most days I go seem to be canister collection moving round the site in a clockwise direction, attackers and defenders. Why not both teams attacking AND defending buildings at the same time? Would really open the site up... and for the love of god MORE COVER IN THE OPEN! I miss all the crates that were there 8 years ago, you were never short of a hiding place.

Back on topic though, if you are in the Police Station and the other teams objective is to hunt everyone down, hide in a cupboard and take pot shots. You wont win... but you will have fun till they find which cupboard you are in

Re: Playing at Urban Assault AKA How to take a building

thats what me and my friends do when defending a building we sit in the darkest cupboard possible and wait. Last time we did it there was 3 reds standing 50cm away from us on the other side of the cupboard door talking about their tactics, some guy tried to open the cupboard to check it but put my foot against it so he thought it was locked lol and move on. I slid my barrel through the cuboard door and shot them all and dissappeared into the darkness again they looked rather suprise one guy sh*t him himself. We then went up behind their team as they thought the building was clear so were respawning there however they didnt check the cupboard we were lurking in. killed about 7 people got 2 surrenders kills.

Its amazing how many people dont take their hits if they dont know where it comes from, I shot a guy 4 times in the arm and he had a little look around and carried on shooting. Its the funnest way to get kills

It is silly though how people think that because they cant see you if wasn't a hit! Really annoys me.

I did cause confusion by hiding and the marshals ended the game, only for me to hang out a window to prove our team had won... didn't end well as they started the game up again and I got slaughtered

Local kids burnt all the crates, or took them home for firewood... One of the two.

Re: Playing at Urban Assault AKA How to take a building

I'm a regular at UA and I think some comments are pretty harsh and some true but I won't go in to that. Having played there for many years I find that the best way to get in the Police station is to use the cover of the old bike sheds and leg it to the building directly behind the police station where you can easily create a cross fire on the ground floor as well as take out a lot of guys on the annex on the bottom floor nearest the old APC. It also had several entry points at the back and quite a bit of cover too as long as you have support. For the buildings that surround the parade square these are best tackled buy using the top floor of opposite buildings and again create a cross fire into the ground and top floors. The Main building can be a real arse if you can get people on the top floor camping in the corner of the two main corredors. UNLESS you've got a grenade and chuck it in from beneath the window of the room without getting shot. Otherwise it's all standard CQB drills in that you need to bisect your corners and doors and team up with someone else who knows the same drills. Theres a lot of useful CQB tactics on Youtube I'd recommend looking at. For stairs again this is one you can find on UTOOB but a grenade and pistol for the lead guy with someone with an AEG close up behind to act as firesuppression. A cheeky tactic I use when going upstairs and not knowing if anyone is covering is just to fire a quick burst at the furthest point you can see up the stairs. Its amazing how many people panic and unload loads of BBS at a non existing target. Obviously this is a double edge sword as you give your postion away too

The Casion building is a simple case of trying to flank it as soon as you can and litterally go round the back of it and take out people from behind them. Same goes for the embassy. Ignore those that don't take their hits though and just get a marshal to get on their case. I've seen it many times myself and there are known people who are more likely to do it than others but again, ask for a marshal.

I do agree that regulars should be split evenly between teams to even things out but I get a better buzz when I/we get the better of them which can make them quite grumpy which makes it all the more sweeter. I also agree that people need to PID where their BBs are falling as you might think they are hitting the mark but they are often not. Im as guilty on this as anyone so need to wind my neck in sometimes. But it doesnt matter where you go you will always find those that don't play fair so it's not just a UA site issue so enjoy it, give it another chance as I personally think its a great site to swap BBs at close ranges.
