Re: AUSCAM Jowie (Ghillie to the English)

    You could be right...

My new gun on order is 3rd burst. Maybe a DMR / demi-sniper / counter-sniper setup isn't such a bad idea for my woodland site. Normally i fight from the buildings in the village, but being at one with nature could be fun too.

I will check the cellar for spare kit and make a start this weekend

Just to break up the tan a little

The camera has made it all a lot brighter than it really is, damned flash washes everything out!

Re: AUSCAM Yowie (Ghillie to the English)

A quick update, I have taken onboard the feedback given and have added some additional DPCU material to the ghillie shirt. This has brightened up the colours without making it too bright, and I will post when I have made the same additions to the hat. I will also post pictures of my rifle once I have ghillied that up to match, but I am waiting on some bits to arrive before I can do that.

I have found a chest rig I will be getting to go with this, and as always some pictures will be posted.

Good work so far but have you put any foliage loops on the ghillie ,as imho any ghillie should be 40% man made fibre and %60 natural ,to use it to its best in the field ,cultivation of the surrounding plant life is a must matey

Re: AUSCAM Yowie (Ghillie to the English)

There are some rubber bands sewn in under the first layer of brown netting, I'll put some pictures up when I get home - completely forgot to add that step! I also have some camo tape in DPCU pattern which I will be using to attach sticks and branches to the rifle from the local area on game days.

I agree that you need to add natural veg throughout the day each time you move position to get the most from a Ghillie. I'll add some pictures when it gets a more thorough field test.

No change, just a photo in daylight to show the colours.

Need to green it up some more, and with a lighter green... getting there though as a base for adding local veg.

Re: AUSCAM Yowie (Ghillie to the English)

Ordered some fabric off eBay to help with the green issues I am having. I will be cutting this into individual leaves, and adding in patches rather than all over the ghillie.

Really Nice and unusual rig there - really like it!

If i was to suggest something; as you're probably going to spend a lot of time prone and as the first set of pics shows you replacing the pockets (as you no doubt want to use them). Did you consider moving the bottom pockets to the "side" of the jacket? That means anything in them is a. still accessible and B. not crushed into the fleshy parts of the body.

                    Just my tuppense...

Re: AUSCAM Yowie (Ghillie to the English)

Thanks, alway nice to hear something positive

It did occur to me, but I'm planning on keeping stuff like strands of Auscam material, string, tissues and pocket warmers in winter in them so nothing that is going to get squished or cause discomfort. Great advice though if people plan on making something similar to this and want somewhere to put there mags.

I did think about extra pockets on the arm pit area for small essentials like packets of haribo, but the chest rig has small pockets on the inside which are perfect for them so no extra stitching needed!

Re: AUSCAM Yowie (Ghillie to the English)

                        Added some more green, and more Auscam material to both shirt and hat and here is the results (apologies for the light);

I've spotted gaps which need some extra material, but I am very pleased with how this is turning out. With the hat hanging round my neck on my back it looks like a hood which is nice. I will be camo painting my face when wearing this on game days.

Now to just pad the knees on the trousers, grub the boots up, find some green gloves and then test it in the woods again.

Filled in some gaps, and dragged the jacket and hat around in some dirt and twigs for a bit. Can you spot it when it's back is to you?

                          15 feet away

                          8 feet away

If I am this close you have already shot me!

FRONT - just to show the colours

I need to add some more material to the hat, but I think this shows that with minimal cover and in direct sunlight it works surprisingly well!

Re: AUSCAM Yowie (Ghillie to the English)

Reinforced the knees on the trousers today.

Gutted a pair of cheapo chinese knee pads for the camp mat material, stuck them on with carpet glue to the trousers, then covered the lot in carpet glue for the Cordura Auscam Material Roxy so generously gave to me. This is the stuff pouches are made from rather than trousers, so very tough. I then left this to dry, and then stitched with doubled up string to give it that extra hold. This has reinforced both the knee and shin area, making prone far more comfortable.

The knee pads are also low enough that I can still use the leg thigh pockets if I choose to, and I can also still wear a drop leg holster without issue.
