WE Dragunov GBBR
10 October, 2012, 09:46
THIS IS NOT A FULL REVIEW AS I DO NOT OWN THE GUN - but i was fortunate enough to play with it lots whilst my buddy reviewed it for an article. As there will be a full review on this guns coming out shortly, i won't steal his thunder with the details.
It is a beauty to use. Far better than i ever expected.
It looks and feels great although the wooden furniture looks like it has seen a little too much pledge for my liking. It was nice and crisp to fire and although i only got dick around with it, i was hitting chest sized targets at a measured 53 meters with 0.2 bb and the hop only roughly dialled in. This was out of the box with no messing about or bedding in either so i am very hopeful for the future of this gun. Only time will tell if it is as reliable as it's RS counterpart.
Sniping is not my thing, and as this is big enough to use as a pole vault and only semi-auto it is not much use for assault style tactics... but if i ever got into the whole sniping side of things this is definitely a contender for the tool of choice. I do need to compare it to a shell ejecting Kar98 though just to be certain!
I would consider cutting one of these down to AK size (i don't know if the AK variant is in production) and using that as a demi-sniper / sneaky bugger, but unless the make full size mags you are limited to 20 rounds a pop and that is no good for sustained firefights. If there is an AK variant i can see me buying my first ever AK airsoft gun in nearly 18 years of playing.

Re: WE Dragunov GBBR
Get a kc02 if you want a small sniper/dmr that runs on gas. You even get a couple of extra shots in the mag.
I like the look of this but the barrel length just isn't necessary in airsoft, especially when this is firing well over 500fps stock and you need to downgrade it to get site legal. A gun this long just isn't practical, shame coz it looks very nice.

Re: WE Dragunov GBBR
It was firing less than 400fps (i think it averaged out about 380fps, but it was chilly) I don't think it will gain in excess of 120fps on warm day.
You are right about the length though - "ahh, Loki, nice of you to join us. You are 10 minutes late. Thankully your flash hider was here on time!"

Re: WE Dragunov GBBR
Lol, well I was going by the testing that RA-Tech had done and it was shooting 530+ on some shots.
Not sure what gas they used or what temp it was. My kc02 has been as low as 350 and upto 450 using the same propane, only difference is the temperature. Would make a very addition to a collection but not very skirmish-able

Re: WE Dragunov GBBR
Thanks for a good little review. I shouldn't worry about the power level, since there's a little thing made By RA Tech called an NPAS. I personally don't see the lenght as a problem..If used as a sniper rifle, in a sniper player role. Where did your friends review come out?

Re: WE Dragunov GBBR
Forgot to mention - i plan on making a VSS Vintorez inspired gun using one of these as the base model.
It will not be 100% accurate as the magazine housing is in the wrong place, but as they do not make short magazines for the AK47 and this already has the correct style of stick fitted, it will be the cheaper option to modify the front end of one of these. I am going to try my arm at sniping. It was neve my thing as i don't think you gained too much advantage in airsoft terms, but as my local site allows 550fps for factory produced bolt actions or semi-autos, i am going to give it a whirl.
I can't really give it any more of a review other than: I will be buying one in the very near future.

Re: WE Dragunov GBBR
Best off using a 74 variant Loki.
Not only is the mag placement wrong on the SVD, its also massive in comparison, also the VSS is full auto capable. 9x39mm coming for ya at quite silly RPM as well.
An SVU might be interesting though.

Re: WE Dragunov GBBR
I can get a German spec 47 or 74 (semi-auto only, allowing it to be 550fps) but nobody does the short mags for those (WE base gun) And i hate going prone with full size AK mags... i may as well stand up. I know the RS version was full auto capable but i need this to be semi for sniping. The Dragunov has the right stock, a short mag and is semi-auto... the only down points are the length and the mag housing placement. Nothing a hack-saw and a "not really bothered, it is airsoft" attitude wont cure!
I plan on making this collection - or something similar so if somebody produces short mags (or i manage to make a few) i will build one on an AK base in the future.

Re: WE Dragunov GBBR
Ill keep my eyes posted on this, especially after a booboo involving my real sword, a friend is willing to sort out a WE version as a replacement and Ill just set a nice project to make an SVU out of the RS one.
