  • 2nd Ranger Battalion WWII

Here are a few pics of my 2nd Ranger Battalion. It was inspired by Captain Miller from a film I'm sure you all know, Saving Private Ryan.

    Inspired by:

Any advice on how to improve the loadout is more than welcome. Let me know if I'm missing something, not wearing something correctly etc!
Please excuse the crumpled trousers, I didn't get a chances to iron them

Looks excellent, much better than my US line inf kit i'm putting together at the mo.

    Nice work

You might want to darken your roughouts with a bit more dubbin. Or wear corcorrans as the rangers at normandy mostly did.

If you're going for a 'film' impression its spot on though.

The other thing rangers nearly always did was cut the leggings/gaiters down in size to a 5" length to make them more practical. The film didnt bother doing that though

I dunno, it was all new once.

And for the normandy landing a lot of the assault troops were issued brand new anti gas treated uniforms that stunk!

Thanks for the positive feedback guys! Glad I've done something right haha

@Gadge, Corcorans are definitely next on the agenda, I need to save a up a bit more cash since they're fairly pricey not sure I wanna cannibalise the gaiters just yet though, I think they're pretty comfortable as they are! Might do so in the future though. Thanks for the advice

Haha yes, I should mention that this kit was put together by samus3366! He did an absolutely excellent job

Also, Ali, I don't have much info, but I managed to source a few pics of the cut down gaiters

Here they are being used by the 1st Ranger Battalion

What are the boots they are wearing as they appear to have tread on the soles and not the smooth type soles as seen on service and jump boots?

They're SV Boots (with Commando soles), and are pretty much specific to the early Rangers who trained with the Commandos at Achnacarry (1st Ranger Battalion).

two pics of cut downs...it was so common in ranger units to be pretty much 'standard'

Looks excellent, always wanted to do a WWII Ranger loadout. I think it's a little more distinctive than the 101st Airborne style a lot of guys go for.
