Re: need help with a soviet set up
If you want really 70s-80s infantry (or Motor Rifles to give it the correct term) then look for the Obr69 uniform. Its more versatile for the era and tend to be a lot cheaper than Obr88. Not quite as practical as Obr88 in terms of cut but since when has period kit been about practicality?!
KLMK is excellent camo and reasonably cheap but like fizzy says not always the most durable. A good place to start though, especially for those of a larger frame.
Gorka is a pretty good choice, although a bit warm for summer. Pricy but practical. Stick to Splav or ANA OD gorka if you want to use it for Soviet era stuff. Well unless you're fortunate enough to find actual soviet stuff.
Webbing wise you can get away with just a belt and mag pouch, especially if you're going for more of a scout look with KLMK. Chicoms or self made rigs are good for Afghanistan. Avoid bought lifchiks unless you really know what you're looking for though. Most are the later model not seen until the 90s and many out there these days are overpriced fakes.

Re: need help with a soviet set up
Not 70-80s as has been said, but Gorka-e Partizan is my favourite Russian camo
Before selling my AK and SMERSH webbing, I basically had the above loadout.

The above is a kitlist for a hardcore Cold War MilSim in the US. It's accurate, and a very good starting point for what you might need to gather for your impression. Plenty of pics, explanations, guides, and info.

Re: need help with a soviet set up
I don't mean to hijack the thread but if you're after Soviet Afghan kit I've got plenty I'm selling on Facebook. I've already sold a couple of bits including a 6b2 vest and the odd pouch but I still have a set of afghanka, panama hat, VDV telnyashka, water bottle, belts and pouches for sale. If you're interested just pop me a PM bud.
Cheers,
J
