Yet another UKARA question - Sorry
13 July, 2014, 21:42
Hello chaps,
Sorry for yet another UKARA question (I did a search I promise)... and in my defence, it is my first on the subject and I'd rather keep well within the law
Anyhow, I am planning on buying my father in law (who is UKARA registered) a pistol as a gift for all his help in wedding prep - far better (for him) than anything else I can think of and the idea seems to be a bit of a hit... He would "be happy with an unusual/interesting/nice pistol new or old"
I am not UKARA registered (it lapsed a while back) but I am a member of a 3rd party insured site, so can provide defence (albeit with some difficulty). Am I allowed to pay for a RIF using my debit card but supply my father in law's UKARA number who will be the recipient (obviously with his permission) and have it delivered to his house? Just want to make 100% sure...
Either way, any recommendations for a "nice/interesting/unusual" pistol?
Cheers

Re: Yet another UKARA question - Sorry
If you are a member of a insured site can't you provide the retailer details of the site for them to contact to prove you are a member and a active one? A UKARA. Is only one form of a defence.
Also I imagine you would be able to pay with your card and get it delivered to your farther in Laws using a different billing and shipping address. As long as the UKARA number matches his name you should be OK. May be worth contacting the shop you plan on using though they will give a definitive answer

Re: Yet another UKARA question - Sorry
Surely the person responsible for the original purchase should be the one who should have the defence to purchase.
Therefore, (and I'm no lawyer) in my opinion, supplying someone else's site membership number (there's no such thing as a UKARA number) would be a no no

Cheers for that. I was almost expecting the usual "Is it the summer holidays again?" routine, so a sensible reply was much appreciated!
Whilst I agree that UKARA is just one form of defence, my recent experiences have led me to believe that many retailers consider it to be the only one - which I guess is fair enough, it is their livelihoods at risk after all!
Long term, I guess I'll have to stop being so bloody stubborn and accept that I'll have to fill out a third UKARA form and perhaps this time not trust it to the site owner and his 'magic bag' which seems to make UKARA forms disappear between the site and his shop!
[Edit] Just spotted Fizzy's post - That's what I was worrying about. The money and therefore contact would be between the shop and the person paying for it and not the recipient? If that is the case, then he'll have to wait or accept a rubbish interim present!

Re: Yet another UKARA question - Sorry
My partner's family have done this. They have used my UKARA number and address to buy me guns as gifts. If in doubt, call the retailer in advance.
