Re: Sterling SMG Loadout
Had a quote back from the retailer I found with them in stock.. they want $134 postage to the UK... so as I was just getting one as a back up unfortunately it wont be happening! Shame as it looks and sounds like a brilliant piece of kit!

No wobble on the catch at all everything is steel apart from the tiny hook itself which I just find odd. Still waiting for batteries to turn up to give it a run but I’m working till monday morning anyway so it will get tested then.

Re: Sterling SMG Loadout
Yes very odd,
Is the plastic hook removable, just thinking I may get a metal one machined as I have a friend with access to a milling machine etc. Thanks for the little review too.

Re: Sterling SMG Loadout
You’re welcome mate, it shouldn’t be too hard for someone with a bit of skill. On another point I bought an Australian F1 pouch for the mags which is a perfect fit I tried to find some 58 pattern SMG pouches but talk about stupid prices!

Re: Sterling SMG Loadout
I didn't think they did any 58 pattern pouches cant say I've ever seen them, not british ones anyway. Thought they just used the standard 58 ammo pouch.

Re: Sterling SMG Loadout
Yeah there were drop loop pouches for the Sterling SMG, capable of carrying two magazines. Quite a few subtle variations of pouches existed, actually. But its Far more common to see the normal 58 pattern ammo pouches being used with the Sterling.

Re: Sterling SMG Loadout
I've modded some normal 58 pouches with drop loops to make them a bit more Gucci but I'll give the Aussie pouch a go 1st.

Cheers Rusty, It got looking in to this today. Found some interesting bits and pieces. It seems that the Sterling pouches where 44 pattern pouches for the Sten which they continued to produce in to the 60's, apparently the original Sterling mags where going to be 40rd but that would of necessitated all new pouches so they where changed to 34rd which kept them the same length as a Sten, mag so the old pouches could still be used. Also read that the Canadian Sterling used 30rd mags using there own size pouch which, obviously, are too short for Brit and Aussie ones.

Re: Sterling SMG Loadout
If you want to run old school British Army with a Sterling you're going to be looking at specialists really. As you've mentioned there's medic, but also old style Royal Signals radio operator world be cool. Not sure where you'd get an old radio set from for the proper scaly back look, but it would be worth it. You could also go Royal Marines or Parachute Regiment Falklands era, but that would involve growing a moustache.
The only stupid question is one that was never asked.

It fires really well surprisingly long and straight but the battery compartment is very small got a 7.4v 850mah lipo in there. The connectors are mini tamiya but that's as far as I go tech wise because I'm rubbish with anything smaller than a JCB.

Re: Sterling SMG Loadout
Lol, cheers fella. I may hang on until i've got mine to buy the battery then, I've found a 7.4 1000 and 7.4 1300 that are only slightly bigger than some 7.4 800/850's. I'll measure it and see then.
Thanks again.

I've measured up a few PEQ batteries, 1300 ones and they should be able to fit

Re: Sterling SMG Loadout
That must be the type i was looking at. The specs say the the battery compartment is 85mm x 35mm which just be the receiver OD, my only concern is the depth of the battety at 13-15mm so unsure if they will be to thick to fit in. The battery i looked at is only 75mm x 32-34mm so ok that way. Cheers.
