Really dodgy or really cool...
24 February, 2015, 20:49
Just seen this appear on facebook and thought it NEEDED sharing...
Personally I don't think its a good idea to be involved with this
Neither to promote it or condone it...
The press and police would have a feast on this and arouse
Fresh calls to ban our wonderful game...
3D printed gun at a UK site... Wtch and make your own mind up !!

Re: Really dodgy or really cool...
It's no difference to building a project gun. You are still manufacturing a RIF

He's a skirmisher with a defence. He could print a million should he wish.

Re: Really dodgy or really cool...
But with a project gun the parts already existed in a legitimate form where as 3D printing is 100% manufacturing from scratch

And the press /police angle on this may also cause a tidal wave that
Could end airsoft... They have a way of blowing stuff out of all proportion.

I don't understand what you're getting at. You know you can buy RIFs right? You start with 0, you buy 1. You now have a RIF. If you start with 0 and print one. You now have a RIF. If you buy one and print one, you have 2 RIFs...

Re: Really dodgy or really cool...
Its no biggie, as an Airsoft guns go its ok, not a genuine replica but thumbs up to the guy for making something skirmishable in such a short time, worth remembering that its not a firearm, its essentially a toy, not capable of doing harm.
The police/home office definition of a rif is based on any dope who knows nowt about guns, but thinks he's seen one up close, a mouldy banana would fool some people.

I think you need to read up on the whole "UKARA" thing dude. It's Illegal for anyone to buy or make a RIF. But we don't get prosecuted as we have a defence against it.

Don't you mean vcra ?, ukara is just a way for retailers to get their hooks in to us under the guise of enforcing some form of lawful defence.
If I carve a blocky rendition of a pistol from timber for my neighbours kid, have I committed a crime that's worthy of the attentions of the authorities ?.
The fuss & attention that this thread may provoke will do more harm to Airsoft than the guys innovative project.

That's correct tackle. I always got my wires crossed about those two.

Re: Really dodgy or really cool...
This clearly can't be converted in any way into a firearm without doing what the BATFE did in the US with a WA GBBR M4 and basically replaced over half of it with real gun parts... parts that in the uk themselves would need a firearms license...
Crack on that man, I think it's bloody awesome!

I don't think the the sky will fall down on us for this one! Attempt to hold up a post office with a 3D printed rif and it may attract some media and police attention. I remember one of the airsoft magazines building a russian heavy machine gun last year! It looks as though this fella has had a lot more success than they did at fielding the build! Brilliant piece of engineering!

Re: Really dodgy or really cool...
I'm probably wrong but is this actually considered a RIF as its not a replica of an existing firearm?
If its designed from scratch and not an imitation etc...
Either way i admire the ingenuity.

If it's clearly a M16 but bright orange, it's not a RIF
If it's some black concoction and Mrs Jones next door thinks it's a gun, it's a RIF
Welcome to the well thought out VCRA!

It's a can of worms best left unopened... I think the guy is clever don't get me wrong I'm all for tech and gadgets and cool inovations
But legally I think this is a grey area and personally I feel it's best not to go down this road...
Airsoft is on an knife edge as it is... Air on caution or face our knee jerk draconian guns laws...
