17 March, 2015, 15:45
I have a Bolt BR47 AEG and struggling to find mid cap magazines that fit. Anyone got one and can tell me which ones to get?
Thanks

Re: BOLT BR47 magazines
None will fit ever ever ever without modification. I had a br47 once before it ate itself. I went around every single car boot store at ground zero weekender and tried every Ak mag people were selling and none fit. What you have to do is file a tiny piece off part of the mag but I can't remember exactly where it was. I think it was on top of the funny little wedge that lock it in.
Anyway if you take the upper body off and put a mag in you will see where it rubs on the mag release mechanism, it's really obvious. The filing down can be done with a piece of sandpaper.

Yep I think it was literally the top of that - the flat surface. I THINK. But have a look through the top of the mag well with the upper body off and hop out to make sure. Because it might have been the skinny little end piece i sanded incant remember. It definitely wasn't he sloping but that's fine.

Re: BOLT BR47 magazines
I filled that bit down a bit but no difference. I think it could be the holes where the BBs come out from aren't the same, the hi cap that came with the gun on the left and the cheap plastic CYMA on the right
The CYMA one appears slightly higher thus not attaching to the entry hole on the gun

Re: BOLT BR47 magazines
Well the issue I had wasn't feeding it was that no mags would lock into place in the mag well. Once I modified the catch on the mag slightly they all locked in and fed fine. Like yours the mag that came with the gun worked but I could never see a difference between that and the other mags, the tolerances must've been tiny.
If it is the mags not locking in like mine the problem is dead obvious with the top off and hop out you will see what part of the mag snags on the mag catch.

Hmmmm I'm not confident in taking the gun apart. Shall I just sand down the top of the mag?

Re: BOLT BR47 magazines
You won't find any that fit I should imagine. I must've tried about 50 different mags from loads of sellers at the weekender last summer and none went in. The problem is the mag release linkage - it has 2 mag release buttons, an AK style one under the mag well and the m4 style one, it is that linkage that snags on the mags.
There's no point trying to modify the mags without looking at what your modifying them for. Taking the upper body off the gun is very simple mate, you just knock the front pin out of the body with a screw driver and slide the top off. Nothing will explode on you, springs won't go flying everywhere.
Personally I think the reason the mag that comes with it fits is because bolt knew they messed up and did a bit of filing on every single mag that went out with the guns.

Re: BOLT BR47 magazines
I've gone and dug through my garage for my box of old crap with my Ak mags in. So it looks like I sanded only a tiny little bit off the top of the lip and the massive big problem was the large piece of plastic above the lip. You should be able to see what I did in the photo below.

Ah I see now! A picture paints a thousand words, thanks mate
Is that a mid cap? If so any chance of you selling it to me
I've been filling away at the wrong place, I've been filing the red part where as I should be filling at the green part. I hope I've not messed up my mag.

Re: BOLT BR47 magazines
If you file too much of the red part it won't work, but from what I found out you have to file quite a lot for it to mess it up. I spent ages looking around on Google for a solution, and he general opinion people had for AK mags that would work in AK's was to sand down the slope part, this totaly wrecked my guinea pig mag. In the br47 the part in that green square is what on my gun was hitting the mag release linkage.
It's a stubby hi cap mate, I didn't want long mags and although I hate hi caps I hated the long mags more stuck on the front of my vest.

Re: BOLT BR47 magazines
OK cool I'll sand down the part in the green box and see how it goes, but I think I've sanded too much from the part in the red box. It's a lot thinner than before and slightly shorter. Will post how I get on tonight.

Re: BOLT BR47 magazines
Weird, I had all mine working after that, your going to have to take the upper body off and the hop out and look to see what's physically obstructing the mag mate. I grantee that you will see the issues then. It's really easy to see the end whisk working with the upper body removed.
