  • What would you say your airsoft experience level is?

Hello Zero In. I just had a random question that I thought would make for a good poll and a bit of a discussion

Above is the poll and the question is 'what would you say your airsoft experience level is'? This isn't a thread of who is the most experienced as everyone's opinion is subjective; however please be humble and not egotistical when answering

This is for airsoft only, NOT for real firearms, firearms law or anything outside of airsoft. You CAN count your overall knowledge of laws relating to airsoft guns though, i.e.: The Violent Crimes Reduction act, and where airsoft guns fall under UK firearms legislation. If you know the laws relating to your airsoft guns and gear quite well, then it will count.
Things that you can count towards your answer:

    *How long you've played
*How well travelled you are (do you play at lots of sites or just one?)
*How well you know your guns (can you upgrade or maintain your own guns? How well do you know how your kit works?)
*How frequently you assume a professional position at a site, i.e.: a marshal or on-site staff member
    *How frequently you play

You can count anything that would contribute to your overall level of airsoft experience, key word. Be honest, there are no right and no wrong answers - answering fairly should help to show us the trends in player experience levels on this forum Here's also a little explanation of what each of the poll choices equates to.

None - I don't play airsoft - This one is fairly self explanatory; you're not an airsofter (or not yet).

Inexperienced - You may have skirmished a few times, but generally the whole prospect of airsoft is quite new to you. You may have bought your first gun recently, but you are still discovering everything airsoft has to offer.

Somewhat experienced - You've been doing this for a while now. You may or may not have ventured far from your home airsoft site, but you probably have started collecting your own gear and you play airsoft occasionally. You might have even had a look at how an airsoft gun works in detail.

Experienced - Airsoft is nothing new to you, you've been doing it for at least a year now. You've visited multiple airsoft sites and you've got your own gear for your games. You know how an airsoft gun works, and you may even be quite good at tinkering with them. Perhaps you've even been a marshal or staff member a few times.

Quite experienced - You airsoft a lot, and you've been doing it for years. You go frequently, usually at least once a month. You've travelled to more than 3 different airsoft sites and have experienced how they are run. You've got your own gear and probably surplus gear too, and you can probably maintain and upgrade all of your own guns easily. You have definitely been a marshall or staff member at one point.

Very experienced - Airsoft has been one of your primary hobbies for a long, long time. You airsoft any opportunity you get chance to, and you've played at a lot of different game sites. You've got so much gear that you don't even know what to do with half of it, and you know your guns like the back of your hand. You're very likely to be a marshall or staff member.

Just voted, using your specified criteria for gauging experience, I came out at "very experienced", BUT I think I can be humble enough to admit that (at nearly 48) your never too old to learn more, whether its knowledge or skills, prior to playing Airsoft (last 13 years), I served in the infantry, did it make me an Airsoft god, did it feck, in fact I'd go as far to say that your mindset on the day plays a big part in how you perform, so I take nothing for granted, nor do I make assumptions about my fellow players, irrespective of their quality of kit or apparent bravado in the safe zone.

          Interesting poll/thread!

I went for 'quite experienced' because despite airsofting for over 10 years, been to more different sites that I can remember and also being staff/marshall as well as moderating this forum, when it comes to gun internals, it's not something I've ever done.

As for the amount of kit I've got/had, I could probably equip my own private army

Re: What would you say your airsoft experience level is?

I'm very experienced in the sites I do go to, but I have tended not to branch out that much, stick to what i'm good at.

My attention to the hobbie involves optimising what I have and working out where I need to improve my game, from loadout, to tactics (using my footage from headcam to see where I went wrong).

I'm not fully immersed because my life is pretty busy outside of airsoft, so I sit somewhere on your scale between experienced and very.

By this criteria I'm very experienced, but I'd never describe myself as such, because if someone is going to do something monumentally stupid, it's going to be me. Often because it purely is, monumentally stupid.

You guys don't have to stick to the criteria specifically It's just a general guideline. I'm asking you to rate what you think your own level of experience is. I've put myself as experienced, even though I've airsofted for about 8 years now I don't really go all that often anymore.

Very experienced, using your criteria. Playing for 2 decades, head marshalled sites, organised and run events, written professionally about the hobby, run an Airsoft related business.

However if I use my own criteria I come up somewhere between "cynical Airsoft OAP" and "full retard"

I would say high. I can do all types of gearbox mods myself.

If that doesn't constitute for a very experienced player, I don't know what does my friend

Experienced?....yes, I suppose so. Still crap at shooting other people on a skirmish site though lol

I have gone to quite a few sites in the South-East England area. Furthest I've traveled is about 1 1/2 hours to Reading to play at The Mall a couple of times. Never assumed a professional position at a site (don't think I'd want to really). Most of my airsofting journeys take on average about 45 minutes. I know how an airsoft gun works (both GBB's and AEG's) and I have done some external upgrades, but never internal. Got quite a bit of gear. Been airsofting for about 4 years. So based on the criteria I'm probably experienced.
