I can't be the only person this confuses and astounds at times?

What do you feel is a good pricing on 2nd hand goods... Regardless of rarity and tinkering?

Do you think any tinkering unless professional and proven (receipts of work done) lowers or ups the price?

Btc spectre FETs...... Despite always being out of stock.... Worth the 100 quid mark up on resales? .... (This isnt even a question...more an observation made today)

Where do you draw a line and eventually call someone out on pricings?

See this is a hard topic as airsofters refuse to admit they don't get out what they put in like a classic army fully gutted and systema rebuilt inside and out still doesn't make it a genuine systema and isn't worth anything in comparison. Personally I want what iv got in it back but failing that I can haggle lol.

Swaps intrigue me though. Good and bad deals on swaps but better value than buying ,ostrich times

I shudder when I read "custom" or "upgraded", it invariably means the seller is going to be unrealistic over his asking price. Painted rifles are a favourite, listed as custom & well they maybe, but only to the person who owns it. You buy a TM 1911 & splash many pounds changing it to a full metal beast & expect to get a higher price than a standard version, Why? The original performed perfectly, did it not?

Literally having a similar discussion on an appraisals thread, I'm often surprised at prices asked on s/h sales, but sometimes it's the reverse & your left thinking "blimey that's cheap".
What about when someone posts up something & you know that it can be bought new for the same or better price ?, as you can't post on members sales threads, it means a pm which invariably they will ignore or tell you you p#ss off & mind your own business.

Same thoughts for me about higher prices due to 'custom paint job' and 'custom up-grade' was it painted by west cost customs ? No ? Then it's NOT a custom paint job then , you've painted it your self !
As to Up-grades unless the gun is a know crappie quality brand and I know any 'tinkering' will increase its reliability I stay well away from it .
Classic example TM recoils , I have several and out off them all which is the reliable one ? Yup the stock one the others I've up-graded my self AND I've also had some up-graded by very reputable tec's and they've all still get problems from time to time stock one never let me down at all.
When I'm selling Gatts I'll always knock 30% as think this is fare price to start at .

It's a similar issue to people listing something in "as new" condition. It may well be "as new" but are you also going to provide me with a warranty or full refund options if it breaks or there is some other issue within an unreasonable time? Many people seem to forget (or simply don't realise to begin with) that that sort of thing if reflected in a retail price...

The thing is, an item is worth whatever someone's willing to pay for it. If someone puts as RIF up for a ridiculous price, chances are no-one will buy it until it gets lowered to a sensible price. If someone does buy it, then it was worth that much to someone (i.e. perhaps that fancy paint job that most most people scoff at was worth the extra £50 to someone who really liked it).

Of course, lying or being misleading on a thread is a completely different matter. But it the post is accurate to the item, I think it's up to the seller to decide how much their item is worth to someone else.

I usually go of the mindset of newest UK price less 30%, unless it's a good brand such as TM.

The thing with people charging £185 for a BTC because they are out of stock for a few weeks is mad. I managed to get one the other day for £87 new from the US and would get one new from the uk for £100 in a few weeks when they're back in.

I think prices can vary and sometimes if something was a limited edition or no longer made, then it goes with the point made above about it's worth as much as someone wants to pay etc

At the end of the day, we'll all pay what we think is reasonable and other times well pay what is needed to get the item we want.

Aa12 and the kriss are prime examples, up here i got a second hand, i got a brand new aa12 from a guy for £300, face to face, but on here asking sometimes higher because they are out of stock

It should work the same as cars just because you do it up, doesn't mean it adds value, it will maybe add abit dependings on what you've done to it

MANY MOONS AGO, back when I was nay more than a wee laddy when I first joined these forums - it seemed like there were plenty more bargains to be had. Plenty of JG or Cyma guns for sale for £100 or less. Now it seems everyone and their mum expects to get £300 for their "custom built" JG G36 because theyve put an angled foregrip on it. There seems to have been a HUGE increase in people asking ridiculous prices, and wondering why their gun isnt selling.

Like the chap I tried to buy a Cyma AKs74u from... they retail brand new for £130 (if you look in the right places) and he wanted £155 for it, then got all snotty with me when I pointed out the price of them new. Oh well, his loss. It still hasnt sold several months after putting it up for sale - I wonder why!

I miss the days when people could reply to the classifieds threads, because at least if a dozen people were telling you youre charging way too much people might actually listen. Now all you can do is "dislike" the post and hope for the best :P

(conversely Im also annoyed that the M4 I bought brand new years ago for about £300 from Z1, now retails for like £180, gonna lose out big time if I ever try to sell it :P )

I must admit I do personally prefer the no comment rule on sales threads. As well as constructive comments some people are too quick to make barbed comments.

Me, I just see a crazy price, comment to myself , yep you'll be lucky then move on to the next one.

That said I have paid through the ass many times for guns I have been looking for but I ain't got no patience.

But my own rule is though if I get a good gun at a cheap price I do like to pass that on when I resell, doesn't seem right to profit from fellow enthusiasts. Maybe that's why I am always skint.

I must add though it goes the other way too. When you list a gun yourself at a bargain price and still get stupid offers.
That's even harder to take.

Theres a very reasonably (sarcasm) priced BTC Spectre just popped back up. Its now only £160 (blu postage and fees) Thats like, £25 less than what wanted for it before!! Don't all rush at once to buy it off him.....

Given the amount of dislikes both of his sales posts had Im surprised he hasn't taken the hint. Or he's just dead set on ripping some poor new guy off....
