There's nothing "tightwad" about looking for the best bang for the buck. For me there's a clear ratio between the desirability of a feature and its cost. Recoil is nice but not at the cost in money and the type of gun that comes with it (one that wouldn't survive being thrown down the stairs). Personally my greatest desire is for robustness, followed by reliability and performance, which is why I no longer consider anything that's not made from steel and wood.

I don't think PTWs (back in the day) were ever that good out the box, that's why Tack made so much money. In fact 2 of my team mates bought the TW5 when it first came out. Both DOA, straight out the box. One guy went with a M4 instead, the other had his TW5 replaced. Again, DOA, so also went with the M4

Actually, that's jogged the old grey matter, perhaps I have been a victim of the PTW snobbery, on this very forum, many moons ago. In one of the many PTW 'discussion' threads I was told I didn't have one because I couldn't afford it and was just jealous. Funny thing is, at the time, I could have happily bought several without issue. I did come very close once, but after 3 dead TW5s and other friends running PTWs that didn't like the damp (not great when you live in the UK), or the £400 bill to have it 'serviced' I really couldn't justify spending well over a grand on one, when my £250 CA was performing well enough.

Were my friends' PTWs better? Certainly, when they were working they were.

Were they 4 times better? Definitely not, in my opinion anyway

It's okay guys! The recoil problem is solved! Now with a battery in mag system for a reasonable $2400..

you saw that too? didn't marui do that in their 416c? For 2.5k, that would have to shoot off a fly's bollocks at 200 meters. And anyone in america is going to take a top end AR-15, a nice optic and a weekend's worth of ammo over a toy gun.

Yeah I did. Kinda weird after seeing this thread too. Yeah they did, I don't half mind that idea, I mean in theory the battery should last ageeeees surely? But each mag being $140 ish?!

I think anyone would tbh, that's so much money to drop considering the costs of TMs.

Re: Have Recoils killed off the PTW market?

Yep, the 416c has a battery in mag system, but at about £40/mag and only 30rds per mag, that gets expensive real fast

Still, you shouldn't run out of battery for about a year

£40? Bah that's gas mag territory. :P does that include a battery or not?
Still, I might make the 416c my first recoil. I always forgot to charge batteries the night before a game..

Re: Have Recoils killed off the PTW market?

Yeah, £25 per mag and say £15 for a battery

It also has the ability to run an external battery, such as in a PEQ box

Ohh so it could use standard recoil mags? Welp. I need one.

Yes indeed! Part of the RIS rail opens and there's a mini tamiya connector in there so you could use a battery PEQ box

I've also seen it wired to a Magpul PTS EPF vert grip as you can get a lipo in there (have the same on my KAC PDW)

Do people believe out of interest that these comments also apply to systema's TW5 range? It seems like for cqb they're up there with the best and TM EBB doesn't really have an mp5 model or similar to my knowledge. Does this make them a little more attractive than their AR cousins that have been overtaken in every way or are they still old hat compared to new products and innovation?

The TW5 isn't any better than the M4 model really, its also VERY heavy compared to both the M$ PTWs and AEG MP5s. Also the mags are getting harder to find and are limited to 40rnd max. I think the reason they get such big licks is mostly due to how niche they are, probably out numbered 20:1 by a normal PTW at least.
