  • Support Gunner BB advice

I've recently bought an M249 to fill a support gunner role in my team.

Just wondering if anyone can provide some advice on the best weight BB to use in this role. The gun is flat hopped FYI.

    Thanks guys!

Personally I'd go with .25 as you'll be going through a lot of them and .28 and up are more expensive. But if you don't mind the spend, and can get he best range and accuracy out of a heavier weight, then go with that.

Awesome bud, I was thinking 0.25s for that reason but I may have to go with the 0.28s for that little bit more brush penetration. Thanks for the advice

When I ran support guns, I'd use them for just that (cover fire/suppression etc).

For the best effect, I found a mix of .25s and .2s gave a nice 'cone' effect when firing.

Personal experience/preference of course. Others may find sticking to one weight, heavier or lighter etc works better for them.

I'd test different weights and see how you get on in terms of range/accuracy

Support guns (real world) are not supposed to be "accurate".

They have what is called a "beating zone" so the rounds fall within an area. There are a few reasons for this:

            1. A beating zone means ammo falls within an area, meaning it is unsafe for entrenched soldiers to expose their head for fear of having a random round open their head up like a canoe. If the enemy cannot see you, they cannot counter you.

            2. When firing at troops in the open, you want to cause mass casualties as swiftly as possible. Having a zone makes it easier for the gunner to take on large numbers with minimal effort compared to a rifleman.

            3. In the event of covering an access / egress point the random pattern of rounds falling is soul destroying to enemy troops.

Based on that rational I would seriously consider a mix of .2 and .25 ammo so you engineer this beating zone into your game play. Your job is not to run about with the weapon shouldered taking on individual targets like you would with a rifle or SMG. Your job is spray ammo everywhere making it unsafe for other players to appear in doorways and windows or lift their head above cover and allow your team mates to move up in relative safety so they can finish the job off.

You may also want to consider a team mate so the two of you can move off and flank the position so you don't actually shoot all your team mates in the back.

Much appreciated all. The mix of weights never occurred to me for some reason but sounds absolutely perfect!

I personally won't bother with weights if you are using the gun properly i'd just go with 0.2s as you are not going to be accurate and you will burn through ammo. when i played as support gunner i went through 4 to 5000 rounds and maybe got 2/3 kills. cost of ammo adds up.
