  • Cambridgeshire newbie

    hi,

I used to play as a teen so never gained a UKARA number, moved halfway across the country for Uni then someway back to setup home. Now im cambridgeshire, looking to attend some local sites soon, gaining my membership and starting a collection.

Looking to get a TM Hi Capa gold match edition, when it finally comes out. Probably a DMR, probably sr 25 based. But first a im a little lost as to which aeg rifle i should buy for my everyday gun. I see many very impressive builds being used by youtubers, but i imagine theyre far from cheap. Although id rather buy the right thing once and spend a bit than buy something cheap and end up repairing/replacing it shortly after.

All depends what your intended budget is, remembering you will also need money for mags/batteries/charger for it as well

Haha yes, I have been making a shopping list. Then revising when I see the end total. The hi capa alone seems to be £150-200, preorder. Then a couple of mags at £25-40, vest at £30-300, molle pouches... I may end up compromising somewhere, or becoming much more frugal elsewhere.

Hi, I'm Cambs too! I've got an Umarex/Armex G36C with 3 mags, 8.4 and charger if you want something to tide you over. £90 but I'm open to offers.
It's all plastic but S&T made (Ares clone?), distributed and licensed by Umarex, very reliable, consistent and easy to strip without tools.
I've got a G&G Sig now but in your situation I found the H&K a useful thing to qualify for Ukara with.
Do like the H&K design and ergonomics though... maybe a G36 aeg recoil in future? Hmmm.

i did message the previous person but they never replied. Where do you play? seems the one near Huntingdon looks good and runs quite often.

Ive actually accidentally bought a carrier and hopefully ill win some pouches in a day or so. My manager has kindly lent me his P90, so im set with that for a little while.

              Oh sorry!
I did reply but something must have fcuked up. Pity, it was quite a long and eloquent reply.
But the gist of it: Urban Assault at RAF Upwood is where I've played most - big, lot's of big buildings with long hallways, the outside is so big that airsoft's (lack of) range is an issue - for me at least . I'm thinking that something long barrelled with a folding stock so it can do both long range and CQB. Anyway last time I was there I ruptured my Achilles tendon and am still healing.
I also did Tuddenham once and found it small friendly, informal and fun in comparison to Upwood where quite frankly the marshals are a mixed bag.
Umarex is a also a mixed bag - they don't make their own guns but buy them in from other firms. However they have H&K's official licence to put official trades on H&K's designs (fellow Germans) so my thinking is that there are 2 companies with good names to lose so they'll try to make sure the manufacturer doesn't do stupid, short sighted stuff. Like making things out of the shittiest "metal" they can.
ASG are another one, this Danish firm has a close relationship with CZ in Czech republic and their made in Europe Skorpion Evo looks like it could be a game changer in terms of build quality and not least a gun made directly by a trustworthy firm. I'm sick of airsoft's crap reliability but I'm not mad keen on TM's plastic fantastic, although they do seem reliable.
Umarex actually own Walther apparently, there's more money in making toy replicas than the real thing! I met both ASG and Umarex through their C02 airpistols before getting into airsoft.

Barrel length makes next to no difference whatsoever, so I wouldn't get too hung up on it. The Skorpion Evo is more than capable in CQB or woodland, or there's the new carbine if you fancied something a little longer

                  Re: Cambridgeshire newbie

Really no difference? I can't help but think a little longer than my current 275 barrel length wouldn't hurt, maybe about 310ish?
If so it'll be Skorpion Evo for me then, the CZ "Bren" looks the biz too but I think it's only the Skorpion as is made in Denmark (albeit the gearbox is Asian but strictly to their specs). I just want consistent range, reliability that reflects value for money. Especially as my G&G 552 has fucked up again. *Sigh* But lovely externals though.
I'd also like something approximating a crisp, decent trigger feel but I don't know if that is even on the table with AEGs.

Actually can you expand on the role of barrel length?

I've been thinking my self that if a good nub and bucking in combination with a good quality barrel regardless of barrel length, can have a result in your gun being accurate and reaching ranges of 70+ meters, then what's the point of long barrels?
Aside from minor effects such as slight fps increase, is the primary reason for long inner barrels just for aesthetic suitabilities? Such as you'd want your dmr to have a long barrel to fit the look.

I'd be absolutely delighted to get "accurate and reaching ranges of 70+ meters" myself. Surely there is an optimum AEG barrel length for range?

One of my next upgrades is an r hop which I hope gives me consistency and good groupings at 60+ meters at least.

Before I used to think I NEED a long inner barrel to maximise range, but now I'm just planning to get a standard 300mm one r hopped, this way I get the range and consistency and won't loose the ability to be as effective in cqb.

Which leaves me questioning the function of getting a longer barrel? But regarding your question, I'm sure there is an optimum barrel length but at the same time I'm guessing it'll also depend and vary in individual guns

I will have to check out the sites you mentioned, I've gone through the message system and can't find a reply, don't know what happened there. Oooh that sounds well crap.

Personally I've been drawn towards kyrtacs (the mk2 spr or the shorter one) recently. My ideal collection would be a solid m4 type, sr25 dmr (or bolt sniper) and a pistol (or two if I want a gas one). That's my basic load out on every game I play, I'd imagine my play style would mimic gaming style a fair amount.

                            Re: Cambridgeshire newbie

My trouble is I have a little experience with Real Steel and have a fairly good air rifle, so airsoft suffers by comparison. But I love automatics and machine guns.
I do love my GBB pistols despite being little practical use so far, I have an Umarex H&K45 made by KWA which I absolutely love but cost a bit + rather expensive mags, especially considering how valves keep going in them. Also a KJW Sig 226 which is modified with 150% springs and feels absolutely the biz despite that the outer barrel is developing a crack due to the stresses on it, after the mag carked it I use TM mags in it and it and it feels more powerful + they're 100% problem free despite I load it up with Black and/or MAPP gas. Oddly GBB pistols seems lot more reliable than my GBBR Mega Arms AR15 by KWA, if I thought it could be reliable and usefully playable maybe a TM M4 GBBR in my future.
As to AEGs well what I really want is trigger feel, some sort of recoil and hopefully a quick change spring - maybe a recoil M4 if it opened up for maintenance like the real thing as my GBBR Mega Arms does, although I do prefer a fully folding stock for inside buildings. An AR15 style AEG would tempt me as a DMR though.

"I'd imagine my play style would mimic gaming style a fair amount." Me too, but... what if I don't want to get repeatedly shot in the head and T bagged by 12 year old?

GBBRs looked incredibly tempting but I think the variability due to the gas would bother me too much. Hence only gbb for the pistol, the gold edition hi capa is supposed to suffer very little due to temperature variance, and it's quite pretty.

I can't remember the last time I was shot in a game like that. Usually some little bastard knifing me having taken a magazine to the torso.
