SRC gen2 vs gen3 value
4 September, 2010, 15:22
Hey im thinking about getting a SRC ak-tac for my second AEG in a few weeks and i have found 2 sites selling them one is a gen2 the other is a gen3 but the gen3 is £70 more. is there any real reason why the gen3 should be so much more when as far as i know they only have a few small improvments over the gen2.
Thanks
No ak tactical haters please.

The only difference I know of is 8mm bearings not 6mm.

GENIII would have better internals as well as externals, like others have mentioned - it is worth the extra money.

Re: SRC gen2 vs gen3 value
I've heard many people say that the gen 3 SRC's are of similar to better quality than TM.

Re: SRC gen2 vs gen3 value
Surely the difference can't just be 6m, 7mm and 8mm?

Re: SRC gen2 vs gen3 value
They are externally, but can be a little hit or miss internally. Usually this is the hop rubbers and nothing else. I have never had any of the issues reported though. Personally I would take a SRC gun over any TM bar the M14 any day.
In fact I don't own one single TM gun, as I find them grossly overrated. The Sopmods are solid, but then they should be at over two times the cost of a SRC gun.

Re: SRC gen2 vs gen3 value
No, You would be surprised at how much difference a 1mm difference would make on the operation of an AEG. If there was no significant reason to redesign the gearbox they wouldn't have spent the money on R&D to do so.
However, the Gen II guns are excellent value too so if you feel the GenIII is too expensive then you cant go wrong with the GENII. But, as said before, lay off and leave well alone the GenI's as they are well known to be pants.

Re: SRC gen2 vs gen3 value
Just to confirm (as I have just opened up one, though a V2) a Gen 3 has 8mm bearings, metal bearing spring guide, aluminium cylinder, aluminum piston head, dual seal metal cylinder head, all in all a very good gearbox..

Re: SRC gen2 vs gen3 value
As has been said before, Gen 3s are generally much more solidly built, internally and externally.
The scale goes like this:
Gen 1 = Shit
Gen 2 = Meh, not bad
Gen 3 = Actually pretty damn good.
Current Arsenal:
G&P LMT Tactical Rifle
ASG CZ Scorpion EVO 3A1
TM 1911 MEU(SOC)
