Pretty sure SAS are recruited from the Army regiments and SBS from Marines / Navy. Willing to be corrected as certainly no expert.
The SAS are recruited from the army (anyone who serves a minimum of 3 years can apply) the SBS are recruited from marines and those in the army that pass the all arms commando course. All arms commandos are generally support units like engineers, logistics, artillery etc

What's the best way to sort a respirator so you aren't completely bollocksed breathing through it or replacing them.every 30 seconds.
Secondly not to get into the weapons debate again but it IS possible for a serving soldier to own an ordinarily verboten handgun stored at home (other than the 7.3 cannot be fired ever historical collector permit) for the purpose.of self.defence with permission to carry it in public for the same.purpose.
You have to show cause, not just 'well I carry lots of cash as a bookie' but documented serious threats on your life bass on your identity and your role. For example I have a friend who is ex irish armed forces lives in N.I who due to his forces experiences postings and certain other issues (combo of where he grew up plus family connections etc etc etc) who has one due to the potential for an attack from sectarian groups.
As for guns used I would assume allot would depend on what role they were playing. Also I.have heard that for allot of.the official training they are in issue kit for the most part.
One.thing I have always wondered is do they have to take the same fam and handling.courses for each weapon system? I know they are pistol specific in 'green army' (I.E If i have passed the familiarisation, handling and live fire course for the Browning 9mm but haven't attended a course for the glock, if on deployment there were no hi powers in stores I couldn't draw a glock without first taking the course)
As for calibre debates in kill house style shooting you would be suprised actually how much of a problem 9mm.and other pistol rounds can be compared to 5.56. Check out the box of truth's testing of drywall penetration and be amazed.
In answer to you question on weapons the short answer is no you can't. There are however exceptions such as special forces, intelligence etc which are allowed to keep weapons etc due to their work. Courses wise you have to pass training on each weapon individually every year meaning you would do one for the sa80, glock, browning, LMG, GPMG etc. Before ops they would put you through each of these so you know how to use them.
Resperators wise get yourself the current issue s12 Resperator it's great and was designed with help from the SAS (they tested it destroyed it then got it re designed)
People forget it's not just the calibre that effects penetration. It comes down to the amount of charge you have behind the round, whether the the round is jacketed, shape of the round etc. The police use rounds which are softer and unjacketed as when they hit they will stay in the target.

Both are tri - service actually. Can join from army, navy or RAF as long as you meet the requirements

Please note I said recruited meaning this is where they actively look to get people from if you are in the Army you get a recruitment brief every so often, in the same way as support arms get a brief every now and then from the paras and commandos (normally when they are short of engineers, logistics etc).
You can apply from Navy and RAF but it is very rare due to the fact that most roles within these arms are so specialised and a big departure from what SF(special Forces) do. The RAF regiment are the most common applicants outside the army (excluding marines) though I believe they are now part of Special Forces Group anyway.

Re: SAS - Black/Blue Kit
Hi all,
Just a quick question, what is like playing with an S10 on?
Is your vision badly restricted, can you mod it so the breath-ability is better etc? Any info would be appreciate!
(All I really know is that you replace the lens with composite ones)

Re: SAS - Black/Blue Kit
I've got an S10, the lenses they come with arent ballistic lenses, a BB will destroy them. I had them professionally replaced with mesh but a few of my mates have done it themselves. I wouldn't trust myself though. That is all you really need to do to make them nicely breathable and usable for airsoft to be honest with you.
I also gutted the filter and took some rubber rubbish out of the inside of the mouth piece. I find it way more comfortable than wearing a neoprene mask, I can't stand having wet and sweaty material on my face. Yes it does get sweaty in the s10 but it all gathers at the bottom and I don't notice it. It doesn't feel hot though, I'm just a real sweaty monster.
I hate the mesh masks people use, I can't get my face sufficiently close enough to my stock to see down the sight. The rubber of the s10 is obviously flexible so it overcomes this.
I find visibility fine, no problems at all, I've used it for years in CQB, the only reason I don't wear it in woodland is because I like to smoke.

Re: SAS - Black/Blue Kit
I have and use a mesh mask predominately but I have trouble with the bolle glasses I use fogging. I like the look of the S10 but I was unsure of it in a practical sense. Cheers for the reply!

Re: SAS - Black/Blue Kit
If you use an S10 and have the lens replaced with airsoft safe *non mesh* plastic ones then keep the air guard inside the mask that goes against your face in the mask. It's purpose is to direct breath *away* from the lens and help stop them fogging.
You can vent the mask further if you dont mind making it functionally useless by drilling holes in the PSM at the front and the SSM/exit valve on the other side from the cannister.
Drilling holes in the primary speech module might actually make it easier for your team mates to hear you if you need to tell them anything without shouting
