How do you personally do it?

Just a random thought after a recent deal of mine fell through because the other person had a shit-fit and threw all their toys out of the pram because of the way I wanted to swap items.

    So heres the scenario:

-I put Item X up for sale or swap
-Person B offers item Y in exchange
-I agree to the swap, we try to sort out delivery details and heres where it all fell apart.

See I wanted person B to send me their item first, once Id recieved it and was happy it was in good working order and they werent trying to pull a fast one, I would then send my item to them.

At this point, person B had an absolute shit fit, accusing me of trying to rip them off and threatening to report me to the site admins as a scammer blah blah blah blah. (Id like to think with 100% positive feedback and nearly 50 transactions, I could be considered a trusted trader on this site :P )

Now I see nothing wrong with this, I mean think of it this way, you wouldnt post your item to someone before they had paid for it would you? Until Ive received payment (whether it be cash, or the trade item) for my item it stays with me.

    Re: Swapping items

I believe if it is a straight swap the person with the lower feedback rating sends the item first, so in that sense you were correct. If it's a swap plus cash it's up to the individuals to come to a reasonable way of doing the deal. I did one recently where person A sent me some money, then I sent my item (higher value) and person A then sent me the other item after the first was received.

If the person you were doing the deal with threw a fit it's a fair bet the item wasn't as described and count yourself lucky you didn't swap for it.

Thing is, if everyone did that, no one would ever swap anything

I have to say though, if the person has good feedback I'd trust them enough for me to probably send something first. When I did a fairly recent swap we agreed we'd send it on a particular day and we both did. Previously I sent a Glock, BFG and cash for a MOE, trusting that the guy would send it, but he had good feedback, so...

Thats true yes, personally thogh Id rather lose out on a deal than have my item dissapear into thin air. Its far too easy to rip someone off online, whats to stop someone just sending you an empty envelope by recorded delivery so they can say "oh well the item arrived, look heres the tracking number proof!"

If someone hass been a long term member with good feedback then Im a bit more inclined to trust them. But if its "ILUVAIRSOFT11937372CODNOOBSLOL17" who just joined today, has zero posts and has EXACTLY what you happen to be looking for then... well... yeah, my spidey sense is tingling!

That works both ways. Why should you be the one who receives the item first and then send yours?

Personally i don't care about sending my items first especially to someone who is a regular on here.I have traded a couple of items to people with low post counts and no feedback and it has gone fine. I just make sure my parcel is sent by recorded delivery and i ask them to do the same. After all I have their address and I would visit them if they tried ripping me off.Never had to yet

I get a bit suspicious of people who show up out of the blue and try selling things on their first post.

                Re: Swapping items

Most of my trades have been sent at the same time, once i asked somebody to send first due to a negative feedback he had. Never had a bad deal when trading. Had issues before but minor and got sorted.

Like I said above, if you were selling something, would you post it out to someone before they had put the money in your account? "Oh Ill take it, send it to me now and Ill pay you on friday when I get paid" - I think not D:

I'm in on the side of buyer sends first unless a equally or more reputable trader then myself.
As mentioned its a form of payment and sellers don't send ideas before receiving payment.
I used to do both send at same time but that usually doesn't work as one party still waits to receive the items first or such.
Luckily I've done that, had a RIFs trade agreed but got called into work on my day off thus couldn't post for a few days. Guy rightly through a fit and I felt guilty as hell.
His 'new, never been used £500+' M14 arrived. Well it wasn't new, or nearly new for that matter. The photos he advertised where, lets say dated. It was in fact very well used in the field, worn, scratched to hell, missing external parts. Didn't test if it worked though. He got it back with a polite pm on where to stick it. I was lucky as I was trading a rif package of genuine equal value.
So yep. Always buyer sends first unless they have better trader rating then me then, and only then send on same day.

No, because people have paypal for cover. But you said, You wont send your item before you receive theirs.

Until Ive received payment (whether it be cash, or the trade item) for my item it stays with me.

I really don't mean to sound rude when i say this (damn emotionless internet). But what makes you so special that you should receive the item first.

If we was going to trade something, would you send me your item first then i send mine when yours arrives safe?

I refuse point blank to send before I receive, I put it in the relevant thread for all to see too.
If a deal falls through because of that then so be it, at least im not going to get done out of my item.
I'd be more inclined to send first or at the same time for the more senior of forum members, but even they should know me and the way I deal by now.

Every swap deal I have done to date has been me receiving before sending and although the other parties have been a bit anxious no matter what they are always informed right down to the slightest detail.

Maybe there is a way you can use money collateral, maybe if the guy send you the gun on monday to arrive tuesday, then on monday you send a bank transfer to be paid out on the following monday, that gives you a week to sort out any issues, the other guy does the same. Once you recieve the guns and are both happy then cancel the bank transfer. That way you are "buying" the gun without any money changing hands and if he scams you then you have bank details, maybe? does that work or am i missing something, a bit complicated mind you lol.

                              How I deal with trades.

1: I'll usually trade items with people I feel confident that are genuine. I do this by looking at feedback/post-count etc.
2: If the person doesn't have a lot of feedback then I'll simply tell them that they send to me first due to their low feedback. I am a regular member of the forums with 100% feedback and if they aren't happy with the terms then there is no deal to be done, simple.
3: I make a video of the item I'm trading to prove that it's in the condition I advertised and in working order etc.
4: I ALWAYS tell the person I'm trading with that if the are not satisfied with the item that I will trade back as long as they send the item back first to ensure the item is returned in the condition I sent it. If it's in the condition that I sent it, I'll trade back.

Simple enough steps that have never led to any issues with trades.
                              Get it right roon ye!
