Painting Metal with krylon.

Hiya guys, just wondering how you would go about painting metal (M4 reciever) I want to make the marking unfilled (black) again and fill in were paint has rubbed. I want it to still look like metal and for the markings to still show. So how woul I go about this? Would it need to be a really thin layer of paint?
