PTT, Headset and Radio Compatability

Hey all, I've recently picked up ZTAC sordin repros and been looking around at some issues pertaining to headsets and PTTs.

I've seen a couple people say that using ZTAC's without an amplified PTT can cause radio chatter to be really quiet and basically unusable. I was wondering if that's true in most cases or just when using cheapo radios?

I'm planning to pick up ZTAC's U94 PTT with the Kenwood adaptor and a Baofeng UV-5R, anything I should be worried about, be on the lookout for when purchasing comms that sort of thing. Basically just want to know if the setup I'm looking at is going to be useable or if I should rethink my setup.
