This is an interesting point about the "hook" or no hook debate, i've watched GenKill several times and Poke does somehow manage to attach his M4 to his webbing, its clear as day during one episode (think i'll check which when i get home). It's almost like he's using a sling hook near the magwell to just rest it up... And yes, he is using his hands in the original picture but we wont count that...

he is hooking the the carring handles tightening bolt over the mag lip by the looks of the like a few threads op

Ok here's a really simple answer, 1pnt slings generally snag on everything on a vest, when I used to use a iba/otv ( vest which they are using) Evan the smallest of pen knife pouches can corse weapons to snag on the vest due to how close the sling is to the body.

Plus he's shooting right handed with iron sights, the nuts which hold the sights to the upper receiver also get snagged on molle
