Help with my Vapex VTE 500P charger, ERROR LED blink code

Hi i have the above mentioned charger but whenever i plug in either of my 8.4v 1600mah nimh mini VP batteries the charger, rather than giving a red led to indicate charging, gives off a blinking red and green indicating an error. What is the problem?

both batteries are old and haven't been used in over a year, i have never tried the charger before but i got it around christmas time.

I have a 3rd battery, an ACM battery, similar to the VP ones, that came with a JG g36c a while ago. when i plug that in it no led and a red led blinks, indicating a different error.

could my batteries all have died or is it the charger?
