front iron sight?

i noticed the other day when i was shooting an L98 (basicly a modified l85 so it can only fire once then you have to cock it and shoot then cock etc.) that the front iron sights are a lot thinner than my airsoft l85. was just wondering if they were like this on the m4 with thin iron sights in real and thick on airsoft?
