At our site we allowed riot shields but they take a certain amount of damage then we have to discard them, but weve found this plastic (cant remeber what it is) that cant take about 100 rounds but then starts to get cracked and eventually bbs start to get through it so we found that really useful. So this way you dont get people who cant just hide behind there shield. you should see the look on their faces when the shield starts to crack as were fire everything at them hahaha

One of my team mates plays with a riot shield, riot helmet and MP5k/Glock as part of our temas black kit counter terror loadouts, and used responsibly it is fine. We play CQB in a site where there is a primary axis you fight down but lots of places to outflank and angles of fire. You have to be careful and coordinated to use the shield to maximum benefit to get anything like the best out of it, and even then it doesn't make you invulnerable.

A grenade will get you, a shot from the side will get you and your head/feet can be shot out from the front. It's specialised, but no more effective than a bag of grenades or particulary good SMG.

I think it's great, sets off our image and we have never had accusations of cheating or bad play levelled at us as a team or individuals within it. As long as used by honest players in sites that aren't just corridors, there is no reason by 1/2 in a game is an issue, we even have riotshield rounds where the site gives out several for particular missions.

well in that case... why dont we just buy a bomb suit and not take hits...

Most sites i know of use the gun hit rules anyway, including hits on anything you're carrying.
Riot shield hit would still get you killed. Just making yourself a bigger target :P

Er... isn't this essentially what all airsoft is, Playing toy soliders at the weekend. Be in Call of duty or British Army.

We were looking at a design that was Perspex and steel. There would be a steel handguard that two disposable Perspex pieces could slot into the top and bottom to make the full shield. The unique thing is that the Perspex goes from a few mil thick at the base to wafer thin at the ends so it can will "wear down" gradually but a well placed shot from a 500fps sniper would go straight thought and hit the target making it more realistic as the "round" would be more powerful in a real sniper. It would be one per team and could be used to rescue injured men and take them back to safety or to get your team down a corridor once.

Ballistic shields have there uses, in theme games or specialist events. I've used them before to great effect in certain scenario's. Got pics somewhere.

    EPIC FAIL too them.
this dosent make sense you say he made it out of cardboard then say you cracked the perspex and shot him in the neck?? sounds like a made up story haha

I did make a couple of riot shield to use but quite frankly you end up either hiding behind it whilst being pinned down by enemy fire or it just gets in the way......its absolutely pointless.

Riot Shields would suck in Airsoft.

Would just end up with a whole squad in Testudo

Anyway, this is all just Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 nonsense. As far as I am concerned, it just highlights nooby players who want to look and be like the little people on their TV screens.

I'm not a fan at all.

I wouldn't physically object to their use but I wouldn't like it.

It's when people use anything at hand that'll take a BB and hide behind it that I get really annoyed.

It's not realistic and that's the whole point of airsoft. If you want to mess about like that, go to fucking paintball!

Brilliant idea Atomic Zombie, once the cardboard gave in that would indicate that the shield had been breached. This would make it possible to take down an airsoft balistic shiled.
