Shortening/Cutting CA G3 Handguard

So after many years of looking at my g3 and saying to myself I want to shorten the length of the barrel and front end to look like the G3 used in Strike Back, I have finally got round to it.

I wondered if anyone here has done similar and has experience in shortening the handguard as I can see two possible ways of doing this. But, not sure which would be he best way of doing it.

I've attached the best pic I can find to show what it should look like, from the show and one I found randomly on Google.
