[Johnny Boom Boom]

Hey I just recieved an ares m249 and have just assembled the gun. However there seems to be a problem (its my first quality AEG so i could just be missing something basic) i filled up the magazine and installed the large battery I bought with the order and when I pull the trigger I can see the BBs moving through the tube from the magazine into the gun but when they reach the gun, the action stops and pressing the trigger has no effect. So the gun is either jamming or there is some kind of setting I have to switch as no BBs have left the barrel

any idea where I am going wrong? also the manual shows a space in the stock for a battery is this just a space for keeping spares?
