Refinishing WE Pistols

Hi all,

Just a quick question
Has anyone tried/failed/succeded to refinish a WE pistol using Birchwood Casey's Alu. Black?

I'm looking at redoing my 1911 to give it a bit more of a realistic finish.
I've heard people have had issues with these kinda products on "questionable" alloys i.e - finish not penetrating etc.

I know to strip and clean the original finish/grease off beforehand but any other tips would be great :D
