I think a loose spring guide usually causes it not to catch though, rather than slam firing. Maby, at a long shot, you could try replacing the springs in the trigger mech. Or check the trigger for signs of ware. Have you had it set on a short stroke for a long time?

Re: Sniper Upgrades (based on a VSR) and Further Guide

Oooh, that is a toughy, as Laylax Pistons don't really wear away very easily. You could try twisting the piston anyways...

Like Dope says the springs (KaruBanes) changing could be the problem, but I have only ever heard of that once.

I do know that the spring guide being loose is a common problem, if it is then get some "lock-tight" on there.

If you have a friend with a VSR, ask to borrow their trigger mech to see if that is in fact the problem.

Like Dope pointed out, having your trigger set to short stroke could wear down the trigger and trigger sear.

Re: Sniper Upgrades (based on a VSR) and Further Guide

Hey Alex, I almost ordered a VSR Pro today, but I'm hanging off for now (at least) until I clarify timescales on some other things I need for my G36K.

Just wondered what mags you use with your VSR's, the standard TM ones (how many rounds in those?) or the G&P 55-round ones?

Any thoughts on the G&P's in terms of reliability or actually even needing that many rounds, etc?

Re: Sniper Upgrades (based on a VSR) and Further Guide

Exciting stuff, I remember my first, a BAR-10 Pro. I modified it into a very competitive rifle and loved it very much. With a slightly more powerful spring and modification you could do the same with your VSR (when you get it)...

I use VSR & BAR-10 mags... I'd found the G&P mags to need a lot of work before feeding, and even then they weren't very good.

To go kind of off topic, and explain the sniper role in airsoft a little better...

The amount of rounds you use really depends on you, I've gone whole 1-2 hour games and only taken 1 or 2 shots. I really like to take on the pure sniper role sometimes, but I find it very hard without a radio and team to back me up. I often find myself surrounded. I'm able to pick off 1 or 2 guys with a degree of stealth, but then getting surrounded (even if they don't know where I am) can be VERY difficult and frustrating without back up. A lot of people will consider themselves honest players, but if you don't shoot someone in the back, the odds are if they see where the shot that hit them came from, they will come back and tell other people where you are, so you must keep on the move (it's finding the right balance really).

You could also take the role as a "Designated Marksmen", but I have found that also requires a lot of skill with a single shot bolt action (I think AEG's are better for this). You have to take aim very quickly, and be able to put follow up shots on your target very quickly (you often find yourself standing which makes it that much more difficult).

I have some "tips" finished, but I'm getting pictures as well to update the thread with and want to do it all at the same time.

                  Hope that helps,

                  Alex (mj23lj)

                    Awesome stuff Alex, thanks.

How many rounds does a standard VSR mag hold? How do you feed the BB's into the mags.......with a pistol speedloader?

What brands of BB's due you recommend and which do you avoid?

Oh and what weights due you recommend for the varying power levels as your VSR goes from standard 285FPS through to say 350+, 400+, 450+ to the 500FPS limit?

                    Thanks.

Re: Sniper Upgrades (based on a VSR) and Further Guide

I think it's 28 rounds (bit stumped, It's either 25 or 28, but I'm going to bet on 28). Really, you should feed the mags by hand, but I often use a speedloader.

                      Decent brand in my opinion:
                      Digicon (Striaghts) .30's / .36's / .43's
                      Maruzen (SGM's) .29's
                      TSD (Tactical) .28's
                      KSC (Perfect) .30's

I can't think of many others off the top of my head, apparently the new Madbull one's aren't bad.

                      FPS & Weight
                      285 - .25's
                      350 - .28's (I use .30's as well)
                      400 - .30's+
                      450 - .36's+
                      500 - .43's

All of the above are for NON windy conditions, you should always have some heavy ammo ready just incase the wind picks up. Also, you could probably get away with using lighter weights, but it will drop accuracy significantly. Remember, more muzzle velocity does not mean more range. The heavier the ammo, the longer it will hold it's energy, and thus the drop in FPS from the muzzle to the target will be less significant.

Get a harris bipod. You remove the 'VSR QD sling mount', then the bipod either attaches to the sling point, or on some cheap chines harris bipods, they come with a screw that replaces the "sling point" (I've gone black for it's actual name).

                          Hope that helps.
