  • So, the Olympics starts today...

    Good luck Team GB!
Other than that, I don't really care much for it all. I could go in to lengthy discussions about the cost and everything else, but I wont. It seems to have cost a fortune, but also has seen a dramatic increase in sports and athletics across the country. Maybe the kids these days might get out and about and out from the computer!

The expense is huge, the money through sponsorship is huge, the increase in sporting activity is even bigger! The local bike trails are now teeming with new comers who are all looking for pointers, and since they have started, actually enjoy the outdoors.

I am going to watch the opening ceremony tonight, and where possible catch some of it on TV.

I think it will be a success, but financially it won't break even for a long time - the trade deals being made around the olympics are long term cash which will no doubt help us with the "recession" we are in, and I have a feeling that the opening ceremony is going to show why the UK has one of the best AV Industries in the world!

I'm quite looking forward to it, but the amount of money spent on arms is disgusting in my opinion. It's a shame we have to go to such extents, just for a sport event that the entire planet is supposed to enjoy and participate in.

Re: So, the Olympics starts today...

Just watching the opening ceremony. Pretty good I think!
There may be a lot spent on the security and arms for the games, but if it goes through without a hitch then will it be money well spent? Possibly, but the alternative doesnt bare to think of /

I wasn't really bothered at all by the olympics, but now that i have lots of work mates out doing the security for it, and watching this, it kind of makes me realise how big a thing this is. Its going to be a big part of history for the UK, its being held all over the UK. When is the next opportunity for this going to come to us? Everybody spoke about losing out to the Footie world cup, but then again we have this major, prestigious event. It might of cost a fortune, but a lot of the money will be regained through other means. Even if we dont break even, the amount of youngsters who have now started to get into sport is something that the government has been trying to push for years, but now people want to get out there and do it themselves.

Plus i like looking at all the HOT foreign women!

Danny Boyle did a great job, I thought!

Another thing I don't like about the Olympics is the fact that McDonald's is one of the prime sponsors...McDdonalds!? Shouldn't it be something healthy? And they've opened the largest McDonald's store in the world at the Olympic village and have banned all other shops from selling chips.

Advantage of being a major corporation who has the money to pay for sponsorship and being able to advertise. Cant blame the company, even if they do make some unhealthy food. Its the people who stuff their faces fault as much as the company who produces it! I like my maccys, but i'm not a fat heathen!
            This opening ceremony is longggggggggggg....

I thought the ceremony was 85%+ politically correct shite.

Queen and James bond "skydiving into the olympic park" rather brilliant. I thought it was a great day for the world to get together have a party and forget about all the shit that's going on even if it was for a few hours only.

It was very British and im glad I got to see it. Chances are none of us will ever see another Olympic Games in the UK, so it does feel special.

I think we showed why we are the best in the world when it comes to putting on a show, and the transformation of the set was genius!

I loved the nod to the NHS and children, how many children were at the Beijing opening ceremony? None!

Danny Boyle take a bow, you reminded the British why it is GREAT to be British!

I thought it was very 'outside the box'. A lot of it was so British that I think other people may not understand.

With you there. I didn't understand half of it. The rest of the world must have been staring in disbelief.

Re: So, the Olympics starts today...

I'm an American here and I thought the first half was really cool. I liked the transformation to the industrial revolution and the history aspect of it. I would've liked to see it go further back in history and continue to the modern era. The British music was cool and having Mr. Bean there was pretty awesome. The children part was nice but the blatant NHS advertising was kinda odd. I'd get NHS banners and ads plastered in Olympic stadium but having it emblazoned on the field was kinda out there. I didn't get the story and how it was "Britishy" but all in all it looked nice.

You guys can do some fireworks, I'll give you that. Wow....
