Just go to a site and play!
Rent an AEG and see how you get on

Just as Fizzy said, go to a site rent the gear and see if you like it.

Perhaps give it a couple of goes and then if you are hooked (which I'm sure you will be) look into buying your first AEG and a set of cheap DPM's from a surplus store.

If you're hiring, it's most likely you'll need to book

Dude, best thing to do is check out the AirsoftMap to find your nearest site then sign up to there forum or give them a call. You could even arrange a site visit on a skirmish day, see what the deal is. Its pretty simple dude, all you need is a little effort and some dollar!

              Corrected :D

Welcome to airsoft! If you have any sense at all you'll walk away now with your wallet in tact. If not, prepare to be addicted like the rest of us nutters :D

Have a look at these sites, see where is close:
              http://www.airsoftmap.net/UK/Skirmish

To start, give the site a call, and rent out some kit. See how you get on! Let us know on here where and when you are going, there is bound to be somebody on here who goes to that site who would not mind showing you the ropes on day 1

If you like, and want your own kit. Surplus DPM's (Brit Army camo) will set you back about £30, eye protection between £10 and £30, and you can get a starter weapon for under £150. That's all you really NEED.

And don't forget, a decent pair of boots.

If you don't wear cammo on your first game, you may end up getting shot a few extra times, but if you don't wear boots, you could break an ankle.

Cheers guys is it that expensive or just like any hobby expensive to start off then gets a bit more reasonable once you have all the essentials

                    Re: New to airsoft!

Totally the opposite, it's fairly cheap to start (well ish!), £200 will get you everything you need. :D

Just after that there are so many "wants" and upgrades, and "oooo that looks so shiny" that you'll have to buy them too

If you are disciplined though, you could potentially get the kit and then it's only going to cost you BB's and site entry fees. Things will break once in a while, but same for any hobby I suppose!

If you get someone to lock away your wallet once you have bought your first load-out and AEG then yeah it can get more reasonable. You'll just have your walk on fees and BB's to pay for.

To be honest once your in you can't stop yourself spending more money and wanting to continually improve your kit:D

                        Re: New to airsoft!

Drag a friend, brother, spouse, parent along too. Nothing wrong with going on your own as you often get split up in game, but it's less intimidating to have at least one familiar person to talk to between games.

Well said, much more fun even with one mate, though, that said, a vast majority of airsofters are incredibly friendly blokes/lasses

If you're not already, get married. That's about the only way to keep to spending down to a reasonable limit!

Ha Ha getting maried doesn't work mate. Not with buying a brit loadout sa80 desert eagle MP5 Magnum boots.

Thats just the wifes kit. But yeah as mentioned above mate take a mate GF or family member. My wife and Brother in Law both play as well as my son marshalling at the Mall site in Reading. Once a mission starts we end up split up and will be lucky to see each other half the day but it is great talking about what happened n a different area of the mission.

Once again as above it doesn't matter though if you go on your own as you will make mates the first day you go.
