Re: use of defence?
When I was last shore based my locker was wedged with Airsoft gear, I'd checked with the armoury but they laughed me out the door when they found out they were essentially toy guns.
For a defense for an under 18, there might be junior member schemes at some sites, but it means squat, an under 18 is not allowed to buy, simple as that, you could have all the defence under the sun, be skirmish site member upto the yingyang, but you still can't buy a RIF or an IF
section 24 of the 1968 Act
Supplying imitation firearms to minors
1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm
2)It is an offence to sell an imitation firearm to a person under the age of eighteen.

Re: use of defence?
Defences can also include requiring them for theatrical reasons (eg movies, stage) but normally require confirmation from the production company

Re: use of defence?
M4s - American.... why would the BRITISH army train with American based weapons?
Most training is about muscle memory and instinct.
The training weapon thing was aimed at the US and body guarding type industries. Regular army has multiple levels of training, culminating in live fire exercises. SF train with live fire ONLY.
I have been around the block a few times and not once have i heard of it being used for genuine training purposes.

Re: use of defence?
When I was in the Americas the US marines were using 550fps PTWs for CQB type stuff.
They do mainly use simunition but that has its limits, they have to take a real weapon out of commission to convert it over to fire simunition. At times that's just not plausible.
For the most part the British use BFAs, SAT ranges or the laser hit marker, however there have been times when GBB L85s have been used when live fire is required for hit identification but it's to dangerous to use live ammo.
It has also been the talk of the top brass for sometime.

The Impossible i can do, Miracles take slightly longer .
