Upgrading a VFC...
1 August, 2012, 13:16
Hi guys
Recently purchased a VFC M4 Dagger but would like a little more FPS and a better trigger response from it. Anyone have any suggestions to do this in terms of value for money/brands etc.
Secondly does anyone know how easy it is to extend the front end of these guns, say if I wanted to use it in woodland for a while and add a longer barrel and rails?

Many thanks

Re: Upgrading a VFC...
For FPS have a look at a new spring. How much more do you want and what's it shooting at the moment? M100 is a pretty standard spring.
In terms of trigger response, have you considered a MOSFET? They will greatly increase your trigger response AND do you gun the world of good. You can spend as little a tenner from a member on here (Billy Breach) up to £100+.

Re: Upgrading a VFC...
what battery are you using? Im pretty sure those VFC guns are tested on 12v car batteries so will handle a high power LiPo no problem. Whack one in and you will have a nice increase in trigger responce and RoF

This is good advice as well.
I forget not everyone uses LiPo's, If it takes an 11.1v LiPo you're laughing!

Re: Upgrading a VFC...
It won't, or at least it will, but your gearbox won't last all that long. There's a difference on spinning the gearbox over on a 12v battery for marketing purposes, and prolonged skirmishing with said 12v battery. Plus the fact a 11.1v lipo is going to be putting out 12.6v on a fresh charge, and without a MOSFET your trigger contacts aren't going to survive much either.

You can extend the rails and barrel just like any other M4. Whether its worth it or not is another matter entirely.
The price of all the parts you'll need will put you into new gun territory, so I'd use it as it is.
A decent Hop and good air sealing etc will give you plenty of range.
As for trigger response, shorter ratio gears and a LiPo are the general method. I'd remove the springs on the gears while you've got it open and shim it properly.
Good luck with whatever you do, it's a sweet looking gun.
Cheers

Re: Upgrading a VFC...
Thanks for all the feedback guys - I'm currently running 7.4 lipos I believe so might go with 9.6s as although VFC test with 12v car batteries (That is impressive) as said above I'd be worried about the gearbox giving up the game after a while.
Any benefit to getting Dean connectors fitted?

Re: Upgrading a VFC...
I don't think you'll see any improvement in switching to a mini 9.6v battery, infact you may well find trigger response gets worse. Deans will certainly be an improvement over mini Tamiya connectors, which you may notice.

Re: Upgrading a VFC...
the cheapest thing to do,would be to improve the hop rubber n nub £8, hard wire a billy breach, and use a 11.1 lipo, thats about £35 tops, then take it further with Super Shooter SS 14:1 high precision Steel Gear Set, and High torque motor around £55 for the pair....there are plenty of things you could do really

I also don't recommend moving away from LiPo. A 9.9LiFe might help, but not much. The suggested SHS gears seem like your best bet. If you're still not happy you can go for HC style short stroke cylinders and more, but you have to compensate with stronger springs and there's more faffing about in general. Go for the gears and keep the LiPo. Adding deans connected helps a tad too, but really just a tad!

Yeah stick with the LiPo for sure and get deans fitted, I am not convinced you will actually notice the difference but it will be there

Intervals of 3.7v for LiPo and 3.3v per cell for LiFe. 3.3,6.6,9.9etc...
You DO NOT want anything higher than an 11.1v in your gun. There wouldn't be much noticeable difference in response without spending a fortune on a motor capable of handling that amount of power. You'd have constant stripped gears, crashing cylinders, the list of woes you'd have is long and distinguished! Plus your gun would sound like a freak of nature on full auto, more like a hummingbird than an M4.
