New Guy with a question
23 October, 2012, 22:13
Hi All
Im Si and just starting out in airsoft.
I need some advice on what ris forend to buy please.
Iv just taken delivery of a KWA M4A1 full metal and I tried on a metal ris forend that I had fitted to my pfc M16.
It fits just fine but I can only get a 7.4v lipo in it.
So my question is this....Is there a full metal ris forend out there that can take 8.4v NiMH ?.
Any advice would be very much apreciated.
Si

Re: New Guy with a question
CASV rail systems can accommodate.
I am confused though, if you just started how have you got a full metal M4A1 and you are replacing the foregrip? Either it is a 2 tone and you are replacing the 2 tone furniture, or you owned the M4 over a few years?

Re: New Guy with a question
Hi crasstoe
Its two tone but the reciever and butt stock are green. The forend is black and so I can replace it without breaking the law.
I only want to replace it because I think the round plastic forend looks horrible.I am also ditching the carry handle and sticking on flip up sights, again just because I dont like the handle.
Thanks for the info, looking up CASV rail systems now.
Si

Re: New Guy with a question
I had a 7.4v 1300mAh lipo knocking around and used it when the NiMH wouldnt fit.
Iv tried both and I get a better rof when useing the NiMH I assume due to the higher voltage.
Thats why I want to use the NiMH.

Re: New Guy with a question
Look at higher voltage lipos. They are far more reliable provided you charge and discharge them correctly.
LiFe batteries are even better but unless you have deep pockets don't bother.
Still if you don't like the forend then no reason not to change it

Re: New Guy with a question
Hi crasstoe
I cant go higher than 7.4v with lipo as the next step up is 11.1v.KWA say that if the gun is detuned with a weaker spring you cant use 11.1v lipos and my gun was detuned to 320fps from over 400fps at the shop.
I realy like the look of the CSAV style rails you recomended so i am going to put a wanted add in the classifieds.
Thanks

Re: New Guy with a question
Good luck getting a CASV... DBoys CASV's are god awful fragile things that fall apart easily and probably cant fit a 8.4 in them due to the screw threads protruding so far internally. They are also generally ugly, weigh nearly a kilo and the top rail isnt square to the rest of the handguard, which is kind of key.
King Arms dont make theirs any more
I've been looking for a casv for about six months now. You could always buy the RS one? :P

he may have meant higher mAh and C rating , a 1200mAh battery with a 15c rating will only give out 18amps which is not very efficient if your gun needs more amps to run properly, an 1800 mAh with a 25c rating would give you 45amps, and would probably run your gun very well without straining

You'd be mad to move away from a 7.4 LiPo to an 8.4 NiMh in my opinion.

Certainly from an 8.4v mini battery anyway.
I'd certainly look at getting a better 7.4v battery if RoF is your thing. Look at getting the highest mAh and 'C' rating you can.

Thanks for the replies guys.
So now Im a little confused.
My limo is 7.4v 1300Ah 15C. If I get one with a higher C and bigger capacity will my rof go up and will it be anything like as fast as a 1600Ah NiMH ? . There was a BIG difference between the two.
Thanks also for the info on casv rails as I don't want to add too much weight to an already heavy gun.

Re: New Guy with a question
Put it this way - ive got a 1450mah 20c lipo (max continuous current 30A) and ive yet to see a gun fire faster on a decent quality 8.4 Nimh compared to said lipo. Your lipo there is only capable of outputting 20A max - to go one further my mate has a 2200mah 35c (over 70A continuous current) - they can be had for 15 quid and are no larger (and it feels like about half the weight) of an equivalent physical size 8.4 - if your really that needy of more firepower then fit a PEQ battery box

Re: New Guy with a question
Thanks dave38x
Looks like I need to hunt around for a bigger forend and a bigger battery.
Now does anyone know how to get the front outer barrel off a KWA KM4A1 so I can ditch the horrible front sight ?.
