Airsoft Face Protection - Gas mask?
15 February, 2013, 14:44
I'm still to go to airsoft, and I'm praying that it isn't as bad as my brother has been telling me; No, I don't have a high pain threshold, but I feel like airsoft might be an exemption - I'll pad myself out to start with, and get used to it and so on..
Anyway, I was wondering - What kind of face protection should I go for? I'm new, and haven't got much of a clue what to go for - Are gas masks viable? If so, where would I get one from? (Cheaply, that is)
Thanks for any help people!

For a gas mask you will need the balistic lenses for it to be safe

And lungs of steel. I wouldn't bother, and for your first time just get a standard face mask, not a gas one.
I'm toying with the idea of getting one but ONLY for when someone throws a smoke in cqb. And even then ill have to mod it so I still keep my glasses on

If your interested in using a gas mask have a look at Cactus Hobbies, they are a brand who make make masks specific for airsoft - therefore are safe to use. They are a bit pricey but I hear the quality is pretty decent.

You can get an airsoft safe s10 gas mask for about £50. There are cheaper options though but you don't want to skimp when it comes to protecting yourself.

Re: Airsoft Face Protection - Gas mask?
If you intend to use a real S10 gas mask then I highly recommend wearing it a
lot
before you try and skirmish in it. Then you will at least get slightly used to the limit they impose on your breathing. They are not something I would advise running around all day in though!
I believe any S10 newer than 1992 has ballistic lenses fitted and would therefore be safe for airsoft. However I would like for someone else to confirm that as I'm not 100% certain.

You can pick up S10's with after market polycarbonate lenses online but they are not cheap.

Get one of these

If you find you like airsoft, invest in something better. Keep the mask to loan out to buddies etc.

Re: Airsoft Face Protection - Gas mask?
S10 with heroshark mesh does a good trick.
Take out the inner gas mask bit, empy the filter, drill some more holes in it, remove flaps. I even drilled some hole in the front plastic piece.
Hekped a lot, but id prob say thdte are better and easier ways!

Wow! Didn't expect so many responses! I'll check out the suggestions, and probably invest in a regular mask for now - Maybe consider buying a ballistic lens gas mask once I've got the feel for the sport - Thanks all!!!
