my local gun shop says i cant buy SPRAYED guns because its not actually allowed.....
because its an offence to paint a firearm......
anyone got more info on that?

its just it SOUNDS feesable.....
but i need more info.
not for one minuite do i doubt him, because he does airsoft and sells airsoft.....
its just my dads extremeley sceptical....

hmmm , that sounds like a load of rubbish mate ,

but i do know that people are trying to ban two tones completely , but its not against the law in the uk to spray RIF for airsoft usage ........................... yet

It is NOT illegal, but is impractical.

It is illegal to paint a firearm, but airsoft guns are not firearms, they're realistic imitation firearms, and covered by different laws.

He's saying it because it's time-consuming and a PITA to do. That's the reason given by a certain Scottish retailler, and more believable than "it's illegal".

i dont recall seeing anything that said you couldn't convert a RIF to an IF.... zero one does it (I think, unless the manufacturers do it, which I doubt)

The VCRA, Section 37, subsection 3 states:

(3) It shall also be a defence for a person charged with an offence under section 36
in respect of conduct falling within subsection (1)(d) of that section to show
that the conduct—
(a) was in the course of carrying on any trade or business; and
(b) was for the purpose of making the imitation firearm in question
available to be modified in a way which would result in its ceasing to
be a realistic imitation firearm.

My interpretation is that subsection 3(b) (in bold above) makes it specifically LEGAL to import a RIF ( Section 36(1)(d) is the RIF import prohibition) and make it into a 2-tone.
Painting it 51% bright green would be modifying it "in a way which would result in its ceasing to be a realistic imitation firearm."

Possibly, if you're doing it as a business, because subsection 3(a) means the importer has to be a trader.
Subsection 3(b) applies only if subsection 3(a) does.

Would somebody logically think about this for one moment! ARGHHH!!!!

REPLICA WEAPONS: Government don't want to have a realistic one to rob banks/scare old dears etc. Therefore fine to make it look not real.

REAL WEAPONS: Government don't want you to hide the fact you have a real firearm. Therefore not allowed to make it look not real.

Easy as that!

If you are having any issues identifying if what you have it a real gun or a BB gun please shoot your shoe now. If it hurts slightly, this is a BB gun. If you now have a very large hole in the shoe and floor... it's a real weapon.
