  • Bullet ant goggles and half mesh face mask.

Has anyone modified a mesh half face mask to fit with bullet ants?
I currently have to wear the top frame of the mask, over the bottom rim of the goggles.
It looks ok, but the added pressure of the mask, over the bottom of the goggles, hurts a little after 10 mins or so.

I was looking at something like this:

And hoping the size of my Bullet Ants (great goggles BTW!) wouldn't interfere

That is very similar to what I have and they over lap slightly. On me anyway.

I'm thinking of trimming the face mask with snips.

Bullet ants are very good. I bought mine brand new last week.

I think they were meant to be issued as they have a black n grey Union Jack on the band and case.

Just did this to my lower mesh last week, used snips to cut the top inch of so away so it fits the shape of my bullet ants, then used a hot glue gun to replace the elasticated cloth, a touch messy because im so hamfisted, but it does the job just fine, and held up perfectly this weekend.

Just expect to be stepping on sharp shards of metal for the next few days, they tend to ping off into every corner!

There's a good guide here on how to mod them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuGMz1bhIFY

The newer issue are being made in tan (well, about 2 years ago anyway). Both the bullet ant goggles and the glasses with another name are very nice.

Yep exactly what I did with my lower mesh, put mask on first so comfy then goggles on where they needed to be, traced the overlap on the mesh with marker pen, peel back the fabric/elastic rim on the mesh then trim the excess, restick the elastic bit with hot glue once happy that both fit nice and comfy then bobs your uncle, fannys your aunt and hey presto

Another nice addition (especially on cheaper lowers) is a strip of medium density foam, or neoprene, around the edges to get a (slightly) more comfortable fit. Does tend to make the entire thing a bit chunkier though.

I did the same thing with ESS V12's, the trick I found was to put the goggles on, then the mask but to adjust the straps so that the mask sits proud to your chin and is slightly raised at the bridge of your nose. Then once it's all on, adjust the mask till it's comfortable. A section of neoprene is a very good thing for comfort, but as has been said it makes it feel a little unwieldy. Your other option, if you have a vice handy or something similar is to literally bend the top of the mask upwards slightly, giving you more room for your goggles.

I have the biggest nose in the world and somehow managed to get it comfortable without modding the mask or goggles, so I guess it's just a case of fiddling with the damn thing!

By adjust the straps I mean wearing the top one further up your head - if that makes sense. Realised I was being a little vague.

Dont forget you have a massive head, so it might be a face size issue :L
