  • Noob need some advice :)

    Hi All,

I just started playing AirSoft and think its awesome! But to hire gear it makes the day very expensive. So i need some advice on what to buy... I'm looking for a decent cheap weapon, Pref a rifle that takes big mags. and perhaps can add little extras on..

Thanks in advance for any help given

Its expensive but worth playing the three games in the alloted time so you can become ukara registered then your rif doesnt have to be brightly coloured. Wouldnt say spend a lot at first till you know what you want

I second the waiting until you get your UKARA number. It goes very quickly and it gives you a chance to try a few different rifles. The G&G range come out very favourably for their price and you can always ask around your local site to see if anyone is selling theirs?

then gotta decide what your looking for. Do you care what it looks like or that its just functional? Do want something short or long rifle? If rifle do you like bullpups? is weight an issue (ABS or full metal)?

if you like adding accessories/changing bits and bobs then a m4 variant is probably a good starting point.
beyond m4's... G36's, ak's and mp5's are the most common id say but theres an airsoft version of almost everything - if looks matter then find what kind you want first and then start asking about brands that do an airsoft version of it.

They can all take high cap mags so dont worry about that

Just have a look on Zero Ones website for something you like the look of. Then we can advise you to buy the G&G M4

Do as others have suggested, rent for the three allotted games then get your UKARA and get a proper RIF. It's what I and most of the people I know did. The people I know who rushed and got a two tone had a hard time selling their two tones when they wanted rid of them.

As for an AEG here is my advice:

                JG G36C

A sadly over looked AEG. Dirt cheap but reliable and has decent all round performance. Very versatile, has enough range for woodland but compact enough for CQB. Also has RIS for various attachments. Only con is that they tend to chrono hot out of the box (almost 400 FPS sometimes) so you will need to install a m100 spring in to make it site legal. As a newbie you might not feel ready to do that, but there are a ton of how to videos and tutorials on the next and I do think it's one of the easier rifles to disassemble.

                Tokyo Marui FAMAS

Again another over looked AEG. Probably one of the most reliable and durable guns I have ever had. Also has an excellent hop up unit. I've out ranged some pretty high end rifles whilst skirmishing with my old FAMAS. Has quite a nice rate of fire too. Because it's bullpup (the mag goes behind) its short but has a long barrel meaning its great for woodland or CQB. Downside is that its mostly plastic, but it depends if that kind of thing bothers you. Also after market upgrades are scarce. The top rail mounts are frequently out of stock and it took me an age to find a silencer adapter. Mags are not cheap either. Has an FPS of about 280. Good news means that it's site legal out of the box, bad news is it's lower than most other AEGs. However I never hap issues engaging targets at range with my FAMAS.

                ICS SIG 551

ICS do a more expensive pro-line range of SIGs, but they do a cheaper SIG 551. My mate has one and I am very impressed. Very accurate out of the box, almost as if it has a tight bore in already. Very ergonomic, metal body with official trade marks and a folding stock for close quarters. Comes out of the box with an FPS of around 310-320 meaning it's site legal. Only down side is mags are a bit harder to get than more common AEGs like an M4 or MP5.

I'd second what Spam has said about G&G M4s. I've never had a problem with mine (or any of the other G&G guns I had). So any of the mid priced G&G Armalite or MP5 variants should do you fine too. However I have known two people who's combat machines broke down after only a couple of games.

The guns I have listed range in price between £150 to £250. Most guns under £200 are not worth it IMO. There are exceptions (such as the G36c) but as a rule you want to spend about £200 on a gun.
