  • Good brand for beginners?

    Hey guys and gals,

i have a problem. I don't really have a universal knowledge of what brand to get. I heard SRC are good but they don't do my favorite gun, the l85. Also, not being ukara, does that matter when buying from here or any where. I dont want to spend a lot and i really need help.

    many thanks

    Evening.

First advice - read through a load of pages (do some searches) as this has been covered a few times on this forum. Also have a look on the classifieds bit and see if there's anything you fancy - most of the guns you see there you'll be able to buy from retailers such as Zero One and get 2-toned.

You will need to buy a two tone weapon as your first gun, that's the law. Other advice would be to go to a site and play some games with rental guns - that will give you an idea of what style of gun you might like. (My local site has M4, G36 and AK platforms).

ICS & G&G make good L85's, but they're quite expensive for a first gun.

My advice is to rent some guns and start saving! If you do decide you want to buy a gun, get a G&G Combat Machine as they're cheap, reliable and sturdy!

http://www.zerooneairsoft.com/produc...oducts_id=6076 - Two toning is also free! Get yourself a couple more hicaps, and a battery or two and you're away - probably for around £150..

I also would reccomend the G&G combat machines from zero one. They are the best value for money i have seen from a new gun ever. Do a few games and get yourself a UKARA (assuming you are 18) then you can easily sell it on here if you want to buy a L85. I will also say that the ares L85s shoot well but have rubbish shiny externals. The Classic army (ICS) ones are brilliant both externally and internally.
      For sale:

      -Splitting M4
      -MP5 Parts
      -MP7a1
      -M9 Magazine

        What's "A UKARA?"
There's a scammer operating openly on this forum. Please be aware of who you're dealing with.

Classic Army and ICS are two very different brands. ARES have cheese internals, not even good cheese - ICS is the best overall in my opinion for an SA80. G&G are ok, none of the higher end ones are cheap. I do agree that G&G Combat Machines are good value though, but they're not very interesting if it's an L85 you're after. To the OP, SRC are a bit rubbish really. Newer stuff is ok, but still not as solid as G&G etc. A good L85 will cost you around £300 if you really want one. Also, you 'aren't UKARA' because you're not a retailer..or an association....it's not really something you can 'have' as such. If you're over 18 it's always a good idea to rent a few times and get a valid VCRA defence, but if you're really impatient Zero One will two-tone a G&G combat machine for you. Still have to be 18 of course though.

Wow! Only 3 replies in the thread and 2 of them are full of misinformation!

You were doing quite well, but where did you pull that little nugget from? OP, you do NOT need to buy a two tone (IF) for your first weapon. Presuming you are 18+ you're quite entitled to purchase a RIF (more realistic looking gun) as your first, so long as you can prove you are a regular skirmisher. One of the best ways of doing this is becoming a member of your local site (which may enforce a restriction saying you have to play 3 games in no less than 2 months to qualify). There are others, please have a look at the VCRA section on here for more information.

              Re: Good brand for beginners?

Technically you don't even need to be a skirmisher to buy a RIF, you just need the seller to be a criminal And since he's not got a UKARA no. and used it as the reason why he wouldn't get a RIF, chances are he hasn't got a site membership either (as UKARA talk would be irrelevant).

Tbh, if you're on a tight budget getting an M4 would be best for saving on cost and the common parts, if you're not then as Cave Johnson here says.

The use of "a UKARA" was not because of my lack of understanding of the law or mis-understanding of the statement i made. I used the term because that is the terminoligy that most airsofters use to describe being registered on the UKARA database as an airsofter. I chose to not be overly-confusing and pedantic because he was not going to understand what i said otherwise and i just wanted to quickly cover what he could buy once he had looked into UKARA more and got a valid defence. I am sure that he did not think i was referring to getting a retailers UKARA and knew what i was talking about although i appreciate both of you obviously being very helpful and trying to sort out the complete confusion he must have been in over the use of "a UKARA".

                  Re: Good brand for beginners?

The problem of over simplifying the use of the acronym UKARA is that it has led to the airsofter's urban myths; UKARA Licence, UKARA am bestest (read only way to be comply with UK law) and other associated bullsh!t myths. Surely as the OP is a new member and quite obviously doesn't have an understanding of the nuances perhaps a full explanation would have been a far better reply than just 'a UKARA', just because it's terminology that's banded around by the majority (read misinformed) doesn't mean that is it right to keep using it (see unrelated hatred of the continued use of 'full metal').

If your father buys the gun with his own money and GIFTS you the gun that's okay. If you give your father the money to buy a gun on your behalf YOU ARE BOTH BREAKING THE LAW. Bear this in mind.

Also two tones look gash and you have little resale value
