Thinking about getting into airsofting.
24 February, 2010, 21:06
There's a place quite close to me that I'm thinking about joining. What is it actually like airsofting? Is it really as fun as it sounds? What type of gear would I need to start out? Clothing, holsters etc. I also want to get a UKARA licence before I buy a AEG, is it better to rent first? The place I am thinking of starting out at does have a rental service.

Re: Thinking about getting into airsofting.
Having just started doing airsoft myself in the last few months all I can suggest is going out to your local site and trying it chances are you will love it and get addicted like me you will be better of renting a gun before you spend money on a two tone just to then turn around and say you don't like it or if you like it you will regret buying a two-tone and wish you waited until you have played 3 games and then got on the UKARA database so you could then buy a RIF. In the way of gear I just wear jeans and a hoodie worry about that if you decide to take it up.

Re: Thinking about getting into airsofting.
i would think airsoft is the best combat simulation going, in terms of what it is like... i play codmw2 when not at airsoft to keep my tactical brain going, it is a stage up from playing an fps and much better than paintball. it is expensive but you can go as often or as little as you like. renting is a good idea, however if you r itching to get a gun then you can always spray it once you have a ukara (provided you have a little artistic talent). though once you have your own weapon the expense begins. basic gear is your gun + hicap+battery+charger (generally supplied with gun) a set of boots and some good eye protection. after this you can think of bdu's (battledress uniforms/camo's) and basic loadbearing equipment. after this you might look at side arms, extra mags and upgrades. you can see how quickly the cost can mount.
i hope this is of use and gives you some idea of what you are about to embark on
best of luck- Stealthgunner

Re: Thinking about getting into airsofting.
Thanks for all the quick replies
I was thinking of going to a military surplus store and getting some BDUs from there. I was going to rent for the first 3 or so games until I can get my own RIF. Just a bit nervous about trying to find my way to the place lol.

Re: Thinking about getting into airsofting.
many sites give you a camo overall when you rent a gun, im not sure how old you are, your means, or if you have a debit card or paypal, but ebay is good for clothing and pouches, many online airsoft sites sell reasonably priced bdu's and will deliver to your door. i have everything i need and rarly go to a surplus store. most stuff will reach you within 2 days. i cant name good retailers on hear but if you search ukara on google and then click onn approved retailers it will give you a list. the founding members are a safe bet. i can email you a list of the ones i have used, you got a vcard? i wont email unless you give your consent.
hope this eliminates the need to go out of the house

What's a vcard? I'd prefer to be able to try the clothes on before buying to make sure they're comfortable and I have odd sizing and my feet are difficult when it comes to getting boots.

Re: Thinking about getting into airsofting.
Its bloody addictive and you can end up spending a fortune on guns and gun bling.
My advice is rent for the first few times most people at airsoft a pretty friendly so ask if you can have a quick go with others guns and make a decision based on lot of hands on experience rather than go buy a G36 or M4 there are lots of guns out there and you may like something a little out of the ordinary once you have had a play.
It also depends on what style of game your most likely to play either Woodland or CQB as different guns lend themselves to different locations / sites.
If you want a happy medium gun to start off with that can effectivly be used at both you may wish to consider an ICS 551 with folding stock. Something along these lines gives you good range (due to barrell length) and with the stock folded a small profile for climbing through windows.
Also dont discount buying a good side arm as they will shoot a good distance and can be an advantage.
Most importantly of all enjoy and play fair.
Best of luck

Re: Thinking about getting into airsofting.
a vcard is a downloadable contact card available on my profile, it will give you my regular email... valid point a bout sizing. to zx12rqsadca1ect... yep tell me about it... a spree on the web can make your balance wane rather alot. and probably more addictive than cigarettes lol.

Just so you're aware, there is no UKARA license, it's simply registration on a database
