Re: Best way to get max range out of an AEG
If we are talking *max* range then:
350 FPS
475mm 6.04 TBB
.3g BBs
Correctly sealed hopup unit
Piston-barrel alignment
People often say that FPS doesn't mean much on range. Well it does, just not drastically, giving an extra 20 feet or so (difference between 300 FPS and 350 FPS). 475mm barrels are proven to be the optimum length. 6.04mm barrels are claimed to be the tightest you should go by Systema as tighter bores cause more BB bouncing inside the barrel (Systema's claim). Heavier BBs retain their energy for longer equating in more range, the best being .3's for an AEG.
There's probably more but my level of effort only stretches to the above and this graph to show you velocity with BB weights at 350 FPS compared to 300 FPS.

Redhawk - piston barrel alignment?
OP - for ease of adjustment and fantastic quality I'd recommend the ProWin hop unit. Superbly well made, and very precise.
That is if your using an M4 :D
