Charging a lipo with imax charger help
5 September, 2013, 15:30
I finally got it working by placing the universal crocodile clips into the ends of my TX60 connectors, but I've never charged a lipo before and i'm a bit unsure.
it's a 3000mAh 35C 7.4 2 cell lipo, I made the settings 3.0Amps, 7.4 2S and put it on Charge setting, but it's reading that it's at 8.31 volts and it keeps dropping slowly, also it says the charging rate is 0.8amps...? I'm just a little worried that I'm about to blow up my lipo here since that doesnt look right at all.
any help or tips for me I wouild really appreciate it? I feel like a massive noob here but I've never charged one in my life and it's very important I get it charged by tomorrow :/

Re: Charging a lipo with imax charger help
when i charge my lipo's i do it on the balance setting at 1.0Amps, this is just what a friend told me so i may be not quite on but its worked so far and nothings blown up, i think charging them too quick (3.0Amps) can be very bad for them
Surrounded? You mean we can attack in all directions!!!

Re: Charging a lipo with imax charger help
I charge mine at 1.0 a and from my understanding, the voltage changes as they charge on my display. I'd charge at 1.5a max and balance charge got added safety

Re: Charging a lipo with imax charger help
It's working fine. The charged capacity of a lipo cell is about 4.2v so your battery should be about 8.4v when fully charged. And the charging current is supposed to drop as the battery nears capacity, having it set to 3A is fine tho. The only thing you should be doing differently is charging it using the balance setting.

ok so it just fully charged after 60 minutes, should I use the discharge setting on the charger and then re-charge it using balance? wont discharging it ruin the battery?

Just use the balance charge setting , fully charged or not it will still work or if you have a setting for just balancing use that .

Re: Charging a lipo with imax charger help
Has previously mentioned above no need to discharge unless you are storing it for long periods of time i.e 8 months or greater
