How to identify what L85 i have?
11 November, 2013, 22:49
Hey guys,
a while back i got a L85 as part of a part ex on a gopro and i need help indentifying who made it! i cannot find any company logos or trades anywhere. it was solds as Ares L85, but to be honest i dont think it is. My mate seems to think its a Star L85 (which i thought was pretty much the same thing but apparently not) I want to get rid of the gun but cant really sell it if i have no idea who made it!
all my other guns have some form of trade mark or logo relating to the manufacturer so i do find it odd that i cannot find one anywhere on this gun.
Anyone out there have any ideas on how i can find out? any help would be greatly appreciated

My personal suggestion would be to look online at takedown video's until you find one that will allow complete Disassembly then if the bits & bobs are all stock it should be pretty easy from their on out to ID

It hasn't got 'Army' written down the side of the TMH has it?

i've owned most l85's -
an army is easy to spot, matt paint and version 1 (no mag release guard etc)
easiest way to tell ares from star from ics, is from the gearbox - give us a photo if you can.

Re: How to identify what L85 i have?
i did try to upload a photo last night but for some reason my laptop crapped out on me as it was uploading from my camera to the laptop
mine has the same marks as the ICS one in the above picture and the gun is actually almost a glossy/satin finish rather then matte black if that helps?
Pictures will follow

My money is on it being a STAR though a polycarbonate gearbox would give this away surely?

Gearbox aside, people so say the Star/Ares is the most realistic

Most realistic
1 ares
2 star
3 g&g
4 ics
5 army

Thats good to know then, are bits for the ares interchangeable with the STAR at all then?

Re: How to identify what L85 i have?
Of all the makes the g&g gen 2 version only and ics are the most reliable . Ares/ star suffer from the nice to look at but unreliable syndrome .

Re: How to identify what L85 i have?
Which is a shame really as ares and star are the only L85s that can have a AG36 mounted to them
though a mate has a Ares L85 and its never let him down, i want to get rid of mine so i'll list it in the appraisals and see what everyone thinks its worth, tbh i just want it gone so i can fund another project
