Tanio Koba Twist Barrel(460mm) optimum FPS
16 February, 2014, 18:40
Hey all.
Looking at buying the tanio Koba twist barrel for my M14. First off, is the cut out on the barrel okay for the M14? I know with some barrels like the madbull, the cut out is off and therefore does not work in M14 hop units.
Secondly, I have heard that the optimum FPS for the twist barrels are 328fps. Is this with a .2? Or can it be 328fps with any weight.(for instance, the rifle fires .28s at 328 FPS)
Thirdly and finally, how does this barrel compare to the Prometheus tightbore barrel?
Cheers

Re: Tanio Koba Twist Barrel(460mm) optimum FPS
FPS has no bearing on usefulness. It's about the energy. It's optimum is at 1 joule of energy. Anything more/less will deteriorate the accuracy. So in other words it won't work very well at all.

Right okay bud.
So excuse me for my ignorance, but 328fps with a .2 is 1 joule right?

Around 330 is a joule of energy yeah. But a .28 at 328 fps is something around 1.42 joules

Okay buddy, cheers for clarifying that.
What you would reccomend between the tanio Koba and Prometheus? Coupled with a TM hop rubber.

Prometheus personally. Never ever had issues with them. Or if you want to go nuts a PDI 6.05

Wasn't aware PDI made AEG barrels! Cheers for that I'll look into them.
Much difference between the Prometheus and the PDI? Worth twice the price?

The PDI will have a far more consistent bore. It's super precise. Wether or not it's worth twice the price is entirely subjective. For me it is, as i'd like to squeeze out every last bit of consistency I could get.

Sorry, one final question, and again excuse me for my ignorance!
I was looking at the 433mm prommy Barrel. They say it's designed for the TM Type 89, but it will for the M14 as well right?
