What to go for... TM Next gen Scar H, HK416 Devgru or a Sopmod CQB??

Hello all,

Being such an impulse buyer, I went to a "shop" (bad idea) with my mate who was putting his deposit down for a sopmod and of course, I ended up putting a deposit down too, initially it is for a TM Next gen HK416 Devgru.

I have just been thinking and still cannot make my mind up if I will be 100% happy with the HK416, as I was actually thinking of getting a Scar H (I have never had one before) and also like the Sopmod, as you all know the sopmod has tons of external upgrades, being an M4 you can give it almost any look that you want.

I am kind of inclined to the HK416 as I like the looks of it, but like I said, I am not 100% sure if it is the rifle i was, as you all probably know, it will cost over £500 so I want to make the right choice.

I know that apart from the model (external parts) the internals are pretty much the same, I was told by the guys at the shop. It will be converted to deans and might also get the spring upgraded to reach 330FPS or there abouts by the shop. Apart from this, i will keep it untouched until something goes wrong with it or breaks. I am also aware of the the flash mag adaptor that you can get to make it fit normal M4 mags.

for you guys who own one or know about this AEG's, is there any particular reason i should go for one of these rifles in specific, apart from just the looks?

Any advise, input is much appreciated.

Hmmmmmm, well ive recently gone for a TM SCAR L (H was out of stock - think there coming back into this country soon though).

I must admit is bloody great, personally id have a go on a SCAR first, even if its not a TM SCAR and is the L rather than the H - as a 416/sopmod you will know what to expect.

If your happy with the look, feel and ergonomics of the Scar H, go for it... one point to remember is only the SCAR H takes those mags.. 416 has the same mags that can be used with the Scar L, Sopmod and Socom (if you buy another recoil gun).

It's all about what you like the look of, the scar heavy and hk416 will have exactly the same performance

I personally would go for the TM Scar H, the blowback action is a lot nicer than the 416 due to the charging handle flying back and forth as well as the ejection port

I also think the scars sound nicer than the M4 varient recoils, plus it won't need a battery conversion like the 416

As said above the ergonomics are better on the scar (ambidextrous, folding stock etc)

And it's a Scar H which will stand out over a plain 416

Only way to know which one is right for you is to test both of them side by side

Thanks for that! My mate has a TM scar H and i like it and i am also aware of the mags being different (i think they look better than the normal m4 mags) so its just a question of preference on the body i would say.

When i got my first aeg, i went to the shop not knowing what to get, but liked the m4 look. I ended up buying a CA g36c as i was told it was different and blah blah blah, i cant fault the gun, it has never let me down and i still have it, but always regreted not geting an M4 and ended buying one! That is what i dont want to do again. (Thinking about the scar, as the hk416 at least looks a little bit like an M4

I forgot about the batteries being much easier on the SCAR than the 416.

If I was going for a 416 I would get the standard one over the Devgru... I prefer the standard 416 stock + grip, plus you can pick up a silencer anywhere.

Elzer0: after reading that thread on then link, its definately between the scar H and the HK416, i have called the shop and they confirmed that they are also getting a few scar H's in tan, which is what i want if i get one. They are also closer to the £600 mark plus i would have to get a few mags too, which makes it a bit more pricey compared to the hk416. Did you try the hk416 before going for the scar H?

If you're going to get an AR-15 Recoil Shock, I'd definitely get the vanilla HK416. It's got by far the best ergonomics (the stock and grip on the DEVGRU are a retrograde step and not particularly accurate to any real-world combination of parts) plus it's got the ambidextrous selector which the SOPMOD, SOCOM, Recce and CQBR all lack. The SOPMOD is definitely more customisable, but the HK416 can be upgraded to very cool specifications with Geissele rail systems and the like too.

The SCAR is a cool alternative, but personally I wouldn't buy one over an HK416. It is in airsoft terms needlessly bulky compared to the 5.56mm variants of the AR-15 platform, the magazines in particular requiring new pouches and all sorts of other accomodations in your rig. Also, while the HK416 enjoys broad compatibility with other AR-15 Recoil Shocks (which enjoy the best support of all Recoil Shocks) the SCAR is a mish-mash of NexGen Version 2 gearbox and Version 1 recoil system, which makes it somewhat harder to know which parts correspond to which upgrades and means some parts are unique and can't be sourced as spares, let alone upgrades, without considerable difficulty. That's before you get to known weakpoints (the stock catch, for example) which are equally hard to source and absolutely impossible to upgrade.

I like the SCAR, particularly the H. But in a straight fight I'd take the HK416 any day.

Thanks PureSilver, i will take that info into consideration. I wanted to know about parts aswell, so that gives me an idea. I didnt realise that the DEVGRU's have a different stock! I like the original 416 stock, so if i get the 416, i will just get the hk416D.

It's probably down to aesthetics in the end, with both being superb performers

Personally, despite the Ugg boot stock, I'd go with the Scar-H as I like the 7.62mm flavour better

I got a scar l not h in the end.

I didnt play with a 416, but have had a standard scar and 416 at points im life.

Personally i really like the feel of the scar system, ergonomically i find it v nice.

Plus i got offered a cracking deal... I did see black scar l reckil with mags a few days after for a super below £400 on this very forum though

I've owned every member of the TM blowback series except the AK and the Devgru. The power limits over here make upgrading them pointless, and as others have already pointed out, they're all great performers.
I'm obsessed with 7.62 or even larger caliber guns, thus the SCAR-H has not left my collection.
It sounds like it's almost completely a matter of which you prefer the look of?
I must admit the mags will be a bit of a pain if you don't already have pouches and gear set up for 7.62.
Have fun on your shopping endeavor; you can't go wrong with either choice.
The SCAR does seem to sound the best of the bunch, but my Recce with a suppressor makes a cool deep thumping sound;-)

Pmags work flawlessly in my recoil 416, so much so, its what i've got most of
