  • AEG Problems

    Hi all,

If an AEG starts shooting bb's out inaccurately with range dramatically reduced to a few feet,
    what's the likely problem?

I sprayed some silicone oil down and around the hop etc and it improved somewhat, obviously there is some kind of issue still. Advice please!!

    Thanks,

The AEG in question is my G&G L85 AFV.

Could be an air leak or something wrong with the hop up.

You should not spray silicone in your hop up unit ever. Also the problem is probably being caused by a really bad air leak caused by a slightly broken part in the gearbox or maybe within the hop unit as nothing else would cause dramatic decrease in power that fast.

Also try shooting it with no hop up.

          Re: AEG Problems

the hop unit provides pressure on the bb causing it to back spin, to convert the pressure into backspin you need friction, if you add lubrication into the unit, it will decrease the friction, some people argue that is perfectly fine to add lubrication to the hop up either directly or indirectly by spraying silicone into their mags,

          I disagree......

in your case most likely cause of problem is that you have an air leak, the simplest way to check is to remove the whole inner barrel and hop up unit assembly, and whilst holding the unit in your hand block off two of the holes i.e where the bbs enter and where the air nozzle enters and blow down the barrel, you should have a tight pressure, like you are blowing on your thumb, release your finger off one end and blow and repeat that a few times, and you can get a feel of how tight the seal is ....ideally you would want to stick your air nozzle into the back of the chamber to do this test, because that makes up the seal....but its connected to your gearbox, if you have one spare lying around you should use it......

if you have a good seal check your air nozzle in the gearbox,to see if it has any damage, even a small chip on the end(which can be caused by a bb getting jammed) can seriously effect your air seal

if you have a good seal then you will need to check your piston, piston head, cylinder, cylinder head for a poor seal

also have you recently changed the brand of bbs, this can also cause major problems if your hop unit doesn't like them
