'Support' Pouches
7 November, 2014, 13:06
I've taken the jump into the role of support gunner.
I was going to get a whole new set up; vest, pouches etc.
However, I've decided to stick with my OTV (assuming I can find the 'wings').
But the question still in my mind is, as a support gunner, what pouches should I get?
I want at least one for a spare box mags and couple for BB bottles, but what else?

Re: 'Support' Pouches
SAW/M60 pouches obviously
This was my OTV when I was running as support gunner
Never bothered with a spare boxmag, as it was easier and cheaper just to carry bags of BBs. Depending what support gun you have and what batteries it takes, it's also worth carrying a spare main and boxmag battery. If you're running a CA/A&K M249 it might be also worth carrying a STANAG as well

A&K M60 MK43 (I think I got the mk right).
The more I look, a spare box mag would be a faff.
What about ammo space for team/squad mates?

Re: 'Support' Pouches
British lads get an LMG 100rd pouch for the mk4 Osprey if that's any help. Don't know the dimensions; would be worth researching.

Re: 'Support' Pouches
Okay, after digging out my OTV, it's looking a bit sorry for itself, so I'll be looking at a whole new vest.
Suggestions?

Re: 'Support' Pouches
Do you need a vest? You could just run a belt rig with 2 ammo pouches on your hips and 2 pistol mag pouches. For longer games, I used a MAP which could carry more ammo, food and a water bladder

Re: 'Support' Pouches
I have a very nice MTP M249 pouch which has a removable divider inside. Very large and fits MOLLE. Would go great on a belt rig.

Re: 'Support' Pouches
As opposed to a vest, I had looked into 'rigs' or webbing. Quite like the look of the Condor Ronin rig.

Re: 'Support' Pouches
As you only really need to carry a couple of ammo/storage pouches your choice is vast! If you're going to be spending time prone though, I'd recommend something that allows the pouches to be on your hips, as I suggested earlier.
Look at the 'MLE harness'. Similar to the Ronin

Re: 'Support' Pouches
Had a look, and it looks almost identical. Doesn't look like it comes in black, though, which is a bugger as I'd much rather pay £35 than £80+!
